Product Description

Amazon Review

Measuring by volume, topics covered and the authority of the authors, nothing documents Redmond's new operating system quite like Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit.

The kit consists of seven books and a well-organised CD-ROM. Each of the books contains comprehensive information about the respective area that it covers, whether it be TCP/IP or distributed systems. The kit not only includes the essential information, but also contains a great deal of detail and background for its many subjects. For example, the book that covers Internet Information Server includes instructions on developing client/server and multi-tier applications. The Windows 2000 TCP/IP Core Networking Guide also has an outstanding introduction to core tenets TCP/IP.

Systems administration manuals have come a long way in terms of usability and presentation, but they are still not the easiest of the available resources to use. Many books (including some from Microsoft) of lesser scope provide information in a format that is easier to follow, including screen shots and step-by-step instructions. The volumes in this kit do not provide as many images, illustrations or diagrams as other volumes, but the level of technical detail is unbeatable.

Many of the volumes could stand alone as books on their subject. The Distributed Systems Guide, which is over 1,600 pages, contains complete coverage of Active Directory, PKI, Distributed File System, PKI and much more.

Why the set includes a volume entitled Internet Explorer 5 Resource Kit remains unclear. It primarily discusses the use, deployment, and customisation of IE 5. This book is thorough, but stands apart from the others as it covers an application, rather than a core piece of the OS.

If you have the budget, and the need for the most comprehensive and authoritative guide available on Windows 2000 Server, this is it. --John Keogh, Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive source of in depth information. 6 Mar 2000
Format:Paperback
This package is the most comprehensive source of information out there about Microsoft's new server OS. But novice users should beware; this is not a study guide for MCP or MCSE exams, nor a good way to get acquainted with the OS. It was designed to provide exhaustive details on the OS, how it's built and how it works, but lacks the structure and simplicity of preparation tools. An absolute must-have for the experienced IT professional. Worth every penny.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning 11 Oct 2008
By Clarke
Format:Paperback
I have tried to purchase this item from two second hand sellers, who have both acted in good faith.

However, both supplied me with IE5 resource kit instead of Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server Resource Kit (It-Resource Kit). The page in the IE5 book that gives publishing information states the ISBN as 1572318058 and the title as Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server Resource Kit (It-Resource Kit) but the book is definitely not that.

I assume that the ISBN-13: 978-1572318052 is correct, but I have yet to confirm this.

Try to get the sellers to check before they send!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny ( good price too ) 22 May 2001

Format:Paperback
I have been using the MS Press MCSE training kit to upgrade my MCSE to Win2k, and found that it left me with more questions than answers. I started looking round for more material to supplement these books. I had put off buying the Res kit because of the price and the fact that I wasn't that impressed with the NT 4.0 res kit. Now that I have taken the plunge and purchased it I am delighted with its content. I have been using it for over a week now to aid in my study towards the 70-216 exam. It is prviding answers to ALL the questions I am coming up against in far more detail than is required.

I have compared the price with local outlets and Amazon has saved me £30.00 .

I am certain that I have saved money buy buying this res kit, because it is so complete.

This is an absolute must for any aspiring MCSE or practicing administrator.

(P.S. excuse spelling)
