Reading this book at the moment and it is first class! Clear concise and to the point! No jargon, all direct information on how to achieve particular roles.

A lot of the commands in this book are applicable to Server 2012/R2 Core

1.0 out of 5 stars Entirely Obsolted by R2 2 Jan 2011
By Gregory Kirk - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was more than a bit surprised and quite disappointed to find out after purchasing this in January of 2011 that it has not been updated to reflect the many changes to server core with the release of Server 2008 R2 in October of 2009.

There is little that is useful if your installation is current, and much that is now complete misinformation in this book. If you are looking for a useful reference to server core as it exists currently, this is NOT the book to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says. It is a "Consultant" 16 Jan 2010

Do not buy this book if you have no experience with command line interface there are better books than this one. This book is designed with the person in mind who knows the commands but can't think of the right one of the time. For that it is excellent. This book has helped me many times with day to day operations when I just could not think of the correct syntax or the proper command.

I am also an instructor, along with my network admin job, and required this book for my students to have for class so they have a good and quick reference book for our Server 2008 class.

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best little windows book 21 Dec 2011
By Hary J. Gilles - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is awesome. I have started reading it from cover to cover. It is packed with a punch. OH I love it. I started reading it and went ahead and bought its companion, Windows 2008 server administrator's pocket consultant. I can't live without it. Thanks Bill Staneck.
