Obviously I am down-rating this review due to Amazon's completely inept product description, not the quality of Microsoft's server software. Amazon, are you listening? YOU HAVE TO COMPLETELY AND ACCURATELY DISCLOSE THE LICENSE TYPE OF THE MICROSOFT PRODUCTS YOU SELL!!! This is critical information for the buyer, who may not be able to legally use the software they receive because the license is not the right type. Do you have any comprehension of this at all? If not then please discontinue marketing these products. You are doing your customers an extreme disservice and poisoning your own market.
Will I consider purchasing another MS product through Amazon in the future? Probably not.
Fortunately I can accept this license in this case, although I was not expecting it. It is extremely dissapointing to receive this little surprise in the mail.
Other discrepencies in the product description:
"Media: CD ROM" really? it's called a DVD.
"Important Notice: A CAL is required to access this server software" Duh. Of course it is. How about you also correctly point out that Server 2008R2 Standard includes 5 CALs by default. Information like this is plainly obvious to IT people but this "important notice" makes it look like you're specifically saying that this particular sku somehow does not include those CALs. It does of course, it says so right on the box, right after it says THIS IS AN OEM SYSTEM BUILDER PACK"
So there. If this is the product you want, have at it. It's a good price and 2008R2 is a great OS unless you're ready to make the leap to 2012. Otherwise call someone who actually understands Microsoft licensing.
