making a dog perform new tricks

Barry Kauler is one of those unusual people who really knows his subject and is an enthusiast as well. He takes you on a tour of how, why and when it makes sense to use assembly language in the horribly proprietary, hidden world of Microsoft Windows. I was interested in seeing if I could get some display speed out of a dog of an operating system without losing the benefits of the windowed user interface. He did the job admirably.
