This classic version of The Wind in the Willows is made extra special by the totally lovely illustrations. I have two boys (8 and 5) who are carried away by this story every evening. I have to paraphrase some of the more dated expressions as I go along, but the illustrations give the story a real sense of place.

Wind in the willows 14 May 2010
Format:Paperback
A timeless classic, appealing to all ages - I'm reading this with my great grandson and both of us are enthralled. Many years ago I took a very well thumbed and battered copy when I went into the Army, it proved to be a huge success in escapism. Imagine the scene played out many times, hardened and weary troops clustered around as the stories unfolded - some of these elite squad warriors almost unable to read and write themselves.

Much of the Edwardian language and expressions were as relevant then as when written, and still has a fascination today. The presentation of this book is quite outstanding and I would recommend it to anyone who has young children around them - or was one once themselves.

Charming
I didn't read this as a child and I decided that I would try a few classics. It was really charming, beautifully written, lovely illustrations. A fabulous book from ages 8 to 80.

Not the classic version
This book is not just abridged, it is altered from the original text. As such, it should be considered to be only a part of the story as originally envisaged by Kenneth Grahame. Read more

OK
The booksize is smaller than I had thought it would be. That's probably my fault for not checking but the illustrations are lovely.
