An excellent little guide to walks in the beautiful County of Wiltshire. The walks are between 2-10 miles and cover a varied selection of walks to suit walkers of most standards. There are walks as different as a city walk around Salisbury to the dramatic exposed open country walk around Alton Barnes. The walks exemplify the diversity within this one County. There are walks in the north that have a more Cotswold flavour, whilst those of the south contain Wiltshire's distinctive and dramatic chalk downs. The breathtaking combes around Win Green hill being possibly the best example.
The guide is very easy to follow and I have used it without having to refer to a map, although you may find one useful. The maps inside and the directions are simplicity itself. If I can use it successfully then it is definitely user friendly. My preference is for a nice pub either halfway around or at the end. There are some walks that have both which is even better! Thankfully such comforting hostelries are also shown in the guide. My own personal favourite is walk number 1 that covers the border paths around The Chutes near Ludgershall. A very quiet and forgotten corner of Wiltshire that contains some magnificent scenery. It is like stepping back in time. Walk 32 is shorter and covers the fascinating area near Tisbury with its grand Gothic folly. I would lastly recommend walk number 45 which is on my own doorstep and is described as an exhilarating downland walk to a famous white horse. I can say with some authority having done this walk many, many times that this is a very accurate description. The guide is money well spent and if you do only half of these walks you will have many happy memories.
