5.0 out of 5 stars A Stunning and Super Sequel, 12 Jan 2009
This review is from: The Willows in Winter (Hardcover)
William Horwood has succeeded where other authors have failed; he has written an enchanting, captivating and unforgettable sequel to Kenneth Grahame's immortal classic. It is enlivened by the delightful illustrations of Patrick Benson and Horwood has written a thoroughly faithful re-creation of Grahame's masterpiece and set the action a little later than the original story. He has successfully recaptured all the joy, good humour and magic of the original great work Of course, the action starts with Mole but he is not spring-cleaning when the story (re)commences. It is a wild and wintry night and he is relaxing with his nephew in front of a warm and glowing open fire when Portly arrives in a distressed state. The tale unfolds with the re-appearance of all the old favourites and anyone who collects the entire trilogy will have a selection of stories that they will enjoy for ever. As always, with Horwood's 'Tales of the Willows' there are 12 chapters of pure escapism and pleasure.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Willows in Senility, 16 Dec 2008
By B. J. Crossley "crossleysmn2" (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Willows in Winter (Hardcover)
Toad went crazy for motorcars now he is going crazy for Aeroplanes in this counterfeit sequel. the characters ( Badger,Ratty, moley,Toad) all seem bland and at times--Demented parodies of themselves.

Kenneth Grahame's humour and warmth are sadly absent and that really does sum up what is wrong with this book.
