Product Description

An exciting German course for adult beginners, Willkommen! offers plenty of opportunities to speak, read, write and understand the language with confidence. Developed using features identified by tutors in adult education as being central to both group and individual study, the book draws on authentic reading and listening materials and contains 'Deutschland Info' sections giving practical and cultural information on German life. New grammar is gradually introduced and there is comprehensive guidance on pronunciation and practice. An audio pack with support booklet is also available.

The text has been updated to reflect modern trends and current spelling practice in Germany.

A lot of negatives comments have been said about the "willkommen" german course for beginners and. I must say I totally disagree wit them.

I bought myself this complete pack.. [CD, support book and main textbook.] and give it a try .. and I love the way it works.

It simply follow a common sense evidence:

When you learned to speak your mothertongue. you did not start by cramming your head with grammar ..
Well, this course does the same..
mainly . you listen,. you read, you repeat, you make senses of what you read or repeat and instead of learning by heart, you UNDERSTAND ...

Yes, there s some grammar in the course, and yes, it does give you plenty of exercises to practice and see how well you re doing.

The main textbook is 256 pages in full colour, with a good choice of learning material, the CDs are clearly recorded, and the support book gives you all the keys to the exercises, ideal for self study.

Honestly at that price ... this is a Great value for money,. specially for the course which is really a good course for beginners.

Those of us that are old enough to remember the Lafayette family from French lessons at school will immediately feel comfortable with this books approach. Well laid out, colourful and concise - just what you want when you are on your first steps to learning another language. the book goes into enough detail where necessary without bogging down your brain with confusion. The use of informal and formal words can help the reader plan what they need to say to any particular person. Very useful tool to gain an understanding of German and would be an excellent read to gain a grounding for any personal or even business trip to Germany. I consider it to be money well spent,

By more relaxed, I mean "familiar". I am using both Willkommen and Deutsch Plus (on two separate, but concurrent, courses). For those that don't know, there is a "familiar" and "polite" form of address and Willkommen makes those differences known and uses both forms more than D.Plus. D.Plus is skewed more towards the "polite" (business) form of address. Both are good courses and both come with CD's.

With Willkommen, you will spend a long time per chapter on one subject (meeting and greeting, where do you live work etc) whereas D.Plus gets into a pattern of two pages and onto the next subject.

It would depend on what style of learning you like. If you are going to study using just one book/CD, I'd probably pick Willkommen. If you intend learn at your own pace by reading other German study aids, go for D.Plus.
