5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, concise, good value and fun, 30 Sep 2001
Those of us that are old enough to remember the Lafayette family from French lessons at school will immediately feel comfortable with this books approach. Well laid out, colourful and concise - just what you want when you are on your first steps to learning another language. the book goes into enough detail where necessary without bogging down your brain with confusion. The use of informal and formal words can help the reader plan what they need to say to any particular person. Very useful tool to gain an understanding of German and would be an excellent read to gain a grounding for any personal or even business trip to Germany. I consider it to be money well spent,

5.0 out of 5 stars IT WORKS and IT S FUN TO USE, 19 Dec 2006

This review is from: Willkommen (Audio CD)
A lot of negatives comments have been said about the "willkommen" german course for beginners and. I must say I totally disagree wit them.

I bought myself this complete pack.. [CD, support book and main textbook.] and give it a try .. and I love the way it works.

It simply follow a common sense evidence:

When you learned to speak your mothertongue. you did not start by cramming your head with grammar ..
Well, this course does the same..
mainly . you listen,. you read, you repeat, you make senses of what you read or repeat and instead of learning by heart, you UNDERSTAND ...

Yes, there s some grammar in the course, and yes, it does give you plenty of exercises to practice and see how well you re doing.

The main textbook is 256 pages in full colour, with a good choice of learning material, the CDs are clearly recorded, and the support book gives you all the keys to the exercises, ideal for self study.

Honestly at that price ... this is a Great value for money,. specially for the course which is really a good course for beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars A more "relaxed" course, 19 Mar 2008
By C. Clark "shrimplady" (Canterbury, Kent, UK) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Willkommen (Audio CD)
By more relaxed, I mean "familiar". I am using both Willkommen and Deutsch Plus (on two separate, but concurrent, courses). For those that don't know, there is a "familiar" and "polite" form of address and Willkommen makes those differences known and uses both forms more than D.Plus. D.Plus is skewed more towards the "polite" (business) form of address. Both are good courses and both come with CD's.

With Willkommen, you will spend a long time per chapter on one subject (meeting and greeting, where do you live work etc) whereas D.Plus gets into a pattern of two pages and onto the next subject.

It would depend on what style of learning you like. If you are going to study using just one book/CD, I'd probably pick Willkommen. If you intend learn at your own pace by reading other German study aids, go for D.Plus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wilkommen
Very good. The book assumes no prior knowledge and information is presented in small chuncks and an interesting and easy to understand way. Could benefit from a better dictionary.

5.0 out of 5 stars great course for beginners
This is a very well laid-out course book that teaches German in a conversational, relaxed manner. It is visually appealing with plenty of colour. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Willkommen
A well laid out book but too many errors for my liking and not all often used words are translated so we have to use a dictionary along side, just a little annoying at times... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars So far, so patchy
Well laid out and presented. I'm only up to lesson three and two errors found already. I hate that in a language book. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Truly Awful
This is a truly awful book. It's virtually impossible to find any grammar information as it doesn't have an index.
It doesn't deserve any stars.
