Product Description

Product Description

A special price for 3 months on this debut album to tie in with the release of Madeleine s new album Standing on the Rooftop . No matter what Peyroux does from this point on, she ll be hard-pressed to come up with anything more engaging or charming than her effort with Galison, got you on my mind. This hip, retro-sounding 11-song cd is an eclectic collection of songs made famous by everyone from Josephine Baker to the Beatles to Stevie Wonder as well as three originals. There s a synergy between Galison and Peyroux that s palpable. Peyroux sings with a depth and warmth never heard before, especially on the title track and on Jerome Kern s the way you look tonight. The cd, produced by Galison, features an array of talent, including Bob Dylan s bassist Tony Garnier and saturday night live drummer Sean Pelton. Even Carly Simon gets in on the act, doing the voice of the scorpion on Galison s witty, woe-is-me number, shoulda known. While Peyroux is a known commodity, it is Galison who is the revelation, playing no less than seven instruments throughout the record. Overview a delightful and exceptional recording . William Galison and Madeleine Peyroux are superb musicians and got you on my mind is a delightful and exceptional recording. I am proud to be associated with it. Carly Simon.

I don't quite understand why Madeline Peyroux waited eight years and then put out two incredible CD's in the same month, but that's what she did. For some reason, Got You On My Mind hasn't gotten any publicity (maybe because it's on a small label)- but in my opinion, its every bit as good a CD as "Careless Love"
"Got You" is a more unusual album in that it has some instrumental tracks (featuring Wiliam Gallison, who plays magnificent harmonica) and has a very varied programme of material. On the seven songs she sings, Madeline sounds more raw and natural on this CD- almost as if it was recorded live, although the audio qualty is wonderful. One could say it feels more "honest".
My favorite track is "Got You On My Mind" which features Madeline and William singing together with a bluesy slide guitar and a terrific beat. Madeline sings especially beautifully on "This is Heaven to me". Strangely enough, she has a different version of this song on "Careless Love" but of the two I prefer this one.
I also loved a version of "Flambee Montalbanese" which is a beautifully authentic take on a famous French musette tune. Wonderful arrangement. This CD definitely takes you on a journey. Bon Voyage!

"Got You On My Mind", featuring the guitar/harmonica talents of William Galison, has a looseness which is missing from "Careless Love"... Peyroux's voice doesn't shine quite us much but overall it's an earthier collection which exudes yet more charm. The fun('n'frolics) of William & Madeleine transcends easily to the listener, which allows you to forgive the muso element which manifests. Standout would be the duo's version of Lennon's 'Jealous Guy'...the harmonica work alone truly touches. The fact that what "makes" "Careless Love" even listenable (ie Madeleines vocals) isn't even present here, yet it remains breathtaking says it all and indicates which of the two I'd recommend.

"Got You" is different from "Careless Love" as it is really a joint album with Wiliam Gallison, and is more varied because of this. Some great songs, fine instrumentals and very varied.

My favorites are "Got You On My Mind" (Madi / Willie duet, "J'ai Deux Amours" the breezy instrumental "Rag for Madi" (great gob-iron from Wilie!) and an almost instrumental version of "Jealous Guy", but there are plenty of other goodies here. The only track I don't like is the rather icky "Shoulda Known" (the "frog & scorpion song", with Carly Simon.)

This has to be one of my favourite albums that I own. I wasnt a huge fan of her Careless Love album - contraversial statement I know :-)

Maddy has a fantastic voice, slightly more blusey on this album. Couple with the brilliant harmonica player William Gailson. This album is quite different from her others, but well worth the listen.

Favourite tracks are the Scorpian and the Frog and Heaven Help us all.

Brilliant!!

A great 'fun' album with that good time feel. Almost like a busking performance but very professional. Only criticism is I would have preferred more of Ms Peyroux's vocals, otherwise great.

I have always loved Madeleine Peyrooux, and had not heard of William Galison, so bought this with some trepidation... This is a great CD.
