Good selection from the writings of one of the seminal figures in the Unitarian Universalist movement in this country. He deserves more attention from those interested in religion in America.
Wordsmithing is the gift of channing 20 Jan 2014

Probably not for everyone. Like many of the 19th-century ilk the speaker and writers had an immense command of language. So it is with Channing. For many, including me, a difficult read. Practice makes perfect. His speech on slavery is alive with concepts about human dignity.
Channing was a Christian Unitarian. He believed Jesus was the Christ but did not believe Jesus was God. I think a critical reading of scripture and a study of the so-called Arian Heresy might raise many questions about modern Trinitarianism. And, such a concept, taken as a whole, does not subtract "one iota" from the issue. In sum: much preferred to modern television.
