Second Edition 4 Aug 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Be aware this is the 2011 second edition being sold by Amazon, not the collectable first edition. The book on sale was not printed July 2010 as suggested by the information Amazon gives on this page. So buy because you like Eggleston pictures. This is a collection of 'B-Sides', lesser known images selected by documentary film-maker Almereyda. The director made "William Eggleston in the Real World". If you know Eggleston's work, you'll know what to expect. A cheaper entry to his ideas is "William Eggleston's Guide", if you like that, you'll love this book. I also recommend you try his "Before Color" book first. As three books they show his first images, first major show, and then the overlooked photos. He's a photographers photographer, meaning those new to photography may find incomprehensible. One thing I like about his images is the ambivalent feelings it produces. You'll come back to his work time and again, as your opinions change every time you look at them. If you've loved Martin Parrs work, then Eggleston is a good place to try next. Also recommend Saul Leiter, Peter Fraser, and Paul Seawright for colour work. Stephen Shores "American Surfaces" is a good companion book.
Eggleston fans will enjoy the gaps filled and making connections with more well know images and the documentary films about him. The print quality is very good and worth the asking price. This edition will probably sell out, 'limited' to 3000 copies. It's not a financial investment, but an intellectual one.

Eggleston at ease 11 Dec 2010
By C. Chubb - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
After the exhaustive Whitney exhibition catalog, which reproduced a vast array of Eggleston images from his lengthy career but not that many previously unseen, the film-maker Michael Almereyda was encouraged to go through the Eggleston archives and curate a collection of heretofore unpublished work.

Three years of looking and looking again brings William Eggleston For Now, a treasure box of photographs new to the reader, extending our understanding Eggleston's work with a concentration on how he has seen his family and friends.

The book is as handsome and relaxed as his sleeping wife on the cover, a fresh view and a charming and personal one, reflective of Almereyda's deep familiarity with and sympathy for Eggleston's way of seeing.

Accompanying the images are several essays and interviews collected from obscure sources and brought into the light: among them Greil Marcus's meditation on a single picture of two women, Lloyd Fonvielle's recollection of meeting Eggleston in 1971, and a witty Almereyda essay originally intended to accompany his beautiful documentary In The Real World.

Lovely book but not good packing by amazon 14 Jun 2011
By bogelgelbo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
For Now is my first William Eggleston book, but I have seen his other books before at library. For Now features never released photographs from Eggleston archive and fully in color edited by Michael Almereyda. It is very interesting to see another person edit on someone else work since they have different views. This edit eventually make a very good book since it features a lot of personal insight on Eggleston life. Also the publisher, Twin Palms, is doing a wonderful production on For Now. The book is very good production wise. Too bad the packing by amazon is not very good, mine came with some dent in the corner.

Five Stars 9 Jan 2011
By Buffy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Beautiful full color Eggleston photos from the Eggleston archives. If you're thinking these are going to be of lesser quality because they were "dug up" from the archives then think again. These are as every bit as good as images found in his other books and I'm happy this was released. Book quality is first class from the printing and paper to the binding.
