Book Description

7 Jan 2010 0340998059 978-0340998052
I Will Teach You To Be Rich is a practical approach delivered with a non-judgemental style based on the four pillars of personal finance - banking, saving, budgeting and investing - and the wealth-building ideas of personal entrepreneurship.

Witty, entertaining, wise and practical, Ramit Sethi explains how to automate your money flow - i.e. earn while sleeping, why your new best friend should be the taxman and how to beat banks and credit cards at the fee game. How do you negotiate a raise? How can you manage student loans? And can you still enjoy your daily latte and buy that iPhone? Sethi's 6-week plan shows you how:

Week 1: Optimise your credit cards and learn exactly what to say to get fees waived
Week 2: Set up no-fee, high-interest bank accounts that won't cost you
Week 3: Open investment accounts even with a small amount of money
Week 4: Figure out how much you're spending. And then learn how to make your money go where you want it to go!
Week 5: Automate your new infrastructure to make your accounts play nicely together
Week 6: Why investing isn't the same as picking stocks - how to get the most out of the market with very little work.

Product Description

Review

'Don't let the breezy irreverent style of this book fool you. It contains serious advice on personal-finance decisions from budgeting and savings to spending and investing.' (Burton G Malkiel, author of A Random Walk Down Wall Street )

'Ramit Sethi is a rising star in the world of personal finance writing . . . singularly attuned to the sensibility of his generation . . .' (San Francisco Chronicle )

From the Back Cover

You don't have to be perfect to be rich. Or the smartest person in the room. Or a type-A personality. In fact, with Ramit Sethi's six-week program to financial independence, you can start with any amount of money, do just 85 percent of what he suggests, and succeed brilliantly through good times and bad.

As irreverent and entertaining as he is practical and wise, Sethi explains how to beat banks and credit cards at the fee game, automate your cash flow, negotiate for a raise, manage student loans, and enjoy your lattes and Manolo Blahniks by practicing conscious spending. It's how to master your money with the least amount of effort—and then get on with your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book 2 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I came across Ramits blog one day after having financial difficulty for a long time. Distrusting automatically the scammy sounding name I decided to read the content and I was blown away by a lot of the simple counter intuitive advice on personal finance and even making money (read his best £20 you'll ever spend post and I guarantee you'll buy this book) It's helped me with my finances and I'm going on a foreign holiday in a couple of weeks for the first time in 8 years because the book helped me so much. And even the books he recommends are great and helpful in starting business's. So I tell you to go out and read this book even if you think you are financially smart this book is an eye opener to the type of finances and money you should be having not what you do have and advice on improving your career and money making (not just money saving) skills too.

So I 100% recommend people to go out there and buy it

All of this is common sense and basic maths. Unfortunately, some people have more (and then ultimately becoming less) money than sense. The most important section is that on saving for a pension, and reducing the volatility of that investment the nearer you are to realising it - but again, that is common sense.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some decent basic advice and a lot of hype 17 Dec 2010
By The Emperor TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Quite a lot of reasonable advice in this book, mixed in with a lot of waffle. It is also intended for the American market.

All the advice that he offers is freely available, he hasn't come up with any of it himself. Maybe your first step to getting rich should be to not buy this book and look at websites like Motley Fool and moneysaving expert and lots of others.

4.0 out of 5 stars A cheesy title but an interesting book
I gave it 4 stars, even though it's a good and interesting book it's very oriented to the US. So some of the examples he gave aren't 100% applicable here in the UK. Read more
