I was fortunate enough to see We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre last August on my last night in London (front row center!). I absolutely loved the show and I couldn't wait to get the soundtrack... I was initially disappointed that it was a live and not a studio recording. However, as I listened to it, I could feel the energy and immediacy of the singers and musicians from performing live that probably could not be duplicated in the studio. And I could see clear images in my mind of each scene with each song and remember clapping and singing along just as the audience recorded on the CD. It is quite amazing listening to this CD and reliving my experience! Tony Vincent's emotion and talent come through so strongly and tangibly. I enjoyed hearing Hannah Jane Fox and Kerry Ellis once again and finally getting to hear Nigel Planer who I missed (the understudy wasn't as good). If you haven't seen the show, I still recommend the CD as Queen's music comes alive in a unique amalgamation of musical theatre and rock music (the plot isn't as important as the music anyway, the only thing that probably could be missed is Ben Elton's trademark wry sense of humor). The arrangements are fresh and new but still retain the grandeur and theatricality of Queen, one of my all-time favorite bands.

This CD gives us the experience of true rock music in its greatest form, live! The Cd was recorded live over three showings of We Will Rock You in the west ends Dominion theatre. On this CD you can hear the ultimate talent of the cast as well as the musicians. To hear Tony Vincent perform Bohemion Rhapsody is absolutly breathtaking to give you an idea of how good it is all I can tell you is that when he performs with Brian May and Roger Taylor they must feel as if they have Fredie Mercury back, if you want to experience this stunning piece of music then get down to the Dominion Theatre and BUY a ticket, but thats not enough, well not for me it isn't I want to experience this masterpiece every day of the week! If your like me I suggest very strongly that you BUY the CD Of We Will Rock You and take the experience home with you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having seen the west-end show a couple of times now, I couldn't wait for the soundtrack... and I wasn't disappointed. Fantastic!
What is particularly nice is that it was recorded live not in a studio, and the audience cheers help to capture some of the vibrant atmosphere of the show. Also, leaving in some of the dialogue puts the songs (especially those with lyric changes) into context with the story.
Queen's music lends itself very well to musical theatre - being very "dramatic" in itself - and the performances by Tony and co certainly do it justice.
My advice is to go and see the show (anyone who loves the music of Queen and the humour of Ben Elton won't be disappointed), then buy this soundtrack so you can relive all the wonderful memories over and over again! Top Stuff!

What can I say? 'We will Rock you' is absolutely fantastic! I have not seen the musical yet but decided to buy the soundtrack as I am a musical fan in general and i was not disappointed by any means. The show takes 24 well known Queen songs and gives them a twist from the original and its stunning!!
Some highlights for me are Hannah Jane Fox singing 'Somebody to Love'; the amazing duet of 'Hammer to Fall' and of course 'We are the Champions' and the title song 'We Will Rock You' but all the tracks are brilliant.
I'm sure if you've seen the show I'm preeching to the converted and you went out on the 11th November and bought it, but even if u havent seen the show, purchase it now, you will love it. Oh and if you really want to 'rock' its a must to play it loud, and I mean loud!!

I was fortunate to see the show earlier this year, with all the principle performers as featured on this recording. And like the show, this CD does not disappoint.
From the overture of Innuendo, you are suddenly thrust back into the theatre, with the plasma screens telling the story of popular music well into our future, where globalisation has ruled out individual expressionism. everyone wears the same clothes, listens to the same manufactured music and musical instruments are outlawed. Only the underground "bohemians" led by Big Macca hold out against the enforced image, and live in hope of the chosen one...
Queen's performances were always theatrical, and taking their music to the west end stage was a logical step.
The recording is described as live, and you certainly get the indication that it was recorded so, with the applause and audience participation mixed in well. Unlike some live recordings, the sound of the audience does not drown out the performers, and is pitched at the right level. However, the recording has been edited, presumably in order to fit onto a single CD, and a couple of minor omissions have been made. The reprise of Headlong is missing, as is the small burst of Fat Bottomed Girls, However, these are not key to the story, and there is enough left to bring back some great memories of the show.
The lead roles of Galileo and Scaramouche are performed brilliantly by Tony Vincent and Hannah Jane Fox, who manage to pay homage to the late Freddie Mercury, without imitating him. Nigel Planer ("Neil" of the Young Ones fame) does justice to one of Queen's more poignant songs "These are the days of our Lives", albeit several keys below the original.
