Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
WHAT ARRIVED
A box about the size of a medium paperback book, inside just a CD - nothing else
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista, Pentium 200MHz,64MB RAM (512MB for Vista), CD ROM drive, 50MB free hard disk space - NB it does not states anywhere on packaging compatible with MAC
INSTALLATION
When CD popped in usual licence agreement you have to accept appears then a box with various option `Start', `Online Help', 'Other Titles' etc - when you press start you have no option but to do online registration first which states ("In order to receive technical support from Avanquest, you must complete this form. Once submitted you will be entitled to receive technical support and information about product upgrades and promotions as they become available.") There are only two options for your title at the start of this form `Mr' or `Ms'???? the rest is the usual American boxes for address etc, when you continue another promotional box appears for Hallmark Greetings Card software ......grrrrr, when you ignore this and continue the internet connection is closed and installation screen appears - hallelujah. The installation takes approx ten seconds then an icon appears on your desktop and you are ready to begin the stages 1) will selection 2) will planner 3) create your will 4) what next 5) home.
WHAT I DID
I did a dummy will with fictional names etc just to see what happened at the end. All the steps were very clear throughout the creation of the will and I found it very easy to compile but, at the end when I came to save it I thought it would be saved on my system as a windows doc but an Avanquest Box came up and said the Will had to be saved/registered online to continue. I tried selecting 'all' and saving to a word document but it wouldn't let me. Although I was happy to fill in the Will Document I am not happy for personal details/finances of myself and those of my beneficiaries including their full name, addresses, childrens' names etc to be swimming around the internet, so for now I have deleted the dummy and will be doing nothing at present. If anybody knows different I would be very pleased to hear because creating the Will document itself was a doddle.

Does the Job 5 Nov 2010
By Pete K
As the review by "Shrinking Violet" says, I was also concerned about personal information being uploaded to the internet. I emailed Avantquest and recieved the reply "Thank you for your e-mail. I'm not sure to what the reviewer is referring, but Will Maker 2009 does not upload your will to the internet. An internet connection is required to install the software, as the software compares the licence key you enter to the one on our servers; however, after installation, it will work perfectly well without a connection."
With this in mind I bought "Willmaker Deluxe 2009". If you only need a simple basic will then this does the job. There is quite alot of advice built into the package but it also offers other services if you wish to pay more such as checking your will, executing a will, storing a will, binding a will - but I felt reasonably confident that the will I created was OK. The only other area I felt a little uncertain was whether the will should be professionaly bound. When an executor sends the will to the probate office to apply for probate it seems that the probate office prefer the will to be bound (according to the notes in the software). I phoned the probate office and they told me that they would prefer it to be bound but that as long as the pages of the will are stapled in a consecutive order then that was Ok. Just in case this might present a problem I bound the will with a rexel binder.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Well it will for me as I am single with no children.

Program is easy to install and works okay on Windows 7.

The first steps you have to complete is decide how complex a will is required based on if you are married, have children or other complex issues.

Will the document hold up if taken to court if anyone disagrees with the document of course you will never know.

The program permits you to save your will (but I am not sure where it puts it, it does not appear in your documents folder) and of course it can be printed and then signed by your witnesses.

For me, with a simple family it does the trick but if I had children, a wife, etc I think a professional will drawn up by a lawyer would put ones mind more at rest.
