The revolutionary new technology of Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 puts skincare at the heart of shaving. It has a Lubricating Gel Reservoir, where water interacts with the solid lubricant to create a moisturising gel that hydrates the skin while you shave. The patented reservoir adds moisture with every stroke to reduce irritation and lasts up to twice as long as other ordinary lubricating strips. The razor has 5 Ultra Glide Blades with Protecting Skin Guards, which act to smooth the skin's surface, preventing it from getting caught between the blades as they pass over the face, which considerably reduces irritation. To finish it off, the Hydro 5 Razor has a Flip Trimmer, which is activated with a simple flick of the thumb on the Lubricating Gel Reservoir, causing it to flip back so the top of the blade head can be used to edge and trim, reaching those hard-to-get-to areas such as under the nose. Got to say that provided you dont have a day or two's growth then these give a really smooth and close shave, much better than the nearest Gillette equivalent.
Far from being another mere gimic the hydro-strip idea seems to work the very best and cuts down on the need for any kind of moisturiser or aftershave skin treatment. Its also something which, combined with the sharpness of the blades, allows for a really quick but also a very close shave.
If you're more used with an electric razor it could take some practice to use without cutting yourself, I've always prefered blades to electric razors so didnt have a problem but I know of people who have been used with the electric shave who've cut themselves, not seriously but just the sorts of nicks its possible to get. The point is its easy done with a blade as sharp as this one.
My only complaint or downside would be questioning why we've now for five seperate blades, surely you reach a tipping point, I remember seeing this sort of thing lampooned by satirists when the first two blade razors where produced by Gillette. It does make for a bulkier shaving head which its difficult to shave immediately below nostrels or around the corners of your mouth or to do so quickly. There was some recognition of this with blades which had single precision shaving blades added but this razor has nothing like that.
That said I do consider this the best there is at the moment.

First you have a single blade, then two. Then fresh innovation- 3 blades. After a bit of thought four blades come out. The trend continues with these shaving experts- 5 blades. I wonder what will be next. Anyway what's this Hydro 5 like? Bit of a let down in my opinion. Firstly there's the plastic. Should you travel with this razor you better be good at fishing. The razor doesn't stay attached to the holder, the blades don't stay attached to the razor, the blade holder cover doesn't stay attached to the blade holder, and the whole lolt doesn't stay attached to the base. reminded me of putting an Airfix model together back in the day.
The razor head is cumbersome and difficult to use properly under the nose as has been noted. There is a flip trimmer for this area which works alright. Might be a subjective view but seemed to get a lot more ingrown hairs with this razor than with any other. Too many blades perhaps. The spanking new "lube strip" performs well at first. When returning to it the following day however the whole strip had swelled and ejected itself from the razor head leaving the somewhat dire predicament of no lube. Not an easy life. This has happened quite a number of times rendering a blade that should have lasted a good week useless after 1 day. If it wasn't for this, and with improved interconnecting plastics, and fewer ingrowing hairs I'm sure it would be brilliant. I'm thing of returning to old school now. One razor, one blade. Take it easy.

Although it undoubtedly cuts shart and close, the design of this razor means you cannot get at the whiskers on your top lip area, just below your nose. Whichever way you angle the razor, the head is simply too bulky to get anywhere close to shaving the area just below your nostrils. This is further exacerbated by the blades being set within a rim that surrounds the whole blade area, meaning you cannot use the narrow edge of the blade to get into nooks and crannies on your face.
