I must admit to being sceptical that the Mason bees would find and use the log but this summer they have moved in and are now busy filling up the tubes. It's positioned about 4ft high hanging off a tree branch and leaning on the tree trunk. The position does catch the morning and afternoon sun.

I have one of these logs, and was also sceptical that it would be found & used, because 'my' local Mason bees mostly dig holes between crazy-paving slabs. I know now that I hung it up at the wrong time of the year (late 2010) which is why there was no activity for a long time, but since we've had this very early summery spell, they've been in & out of the holes all day long. They're great to watch, and it's possible to stand quite close and watch them go in with bottoms covered in pollen, only to emerge a few moments later & set off for another load.

I'm actually moving home soon, and am wondering if it's possible to move the log now that it's in use (and if so, how to do it safely). Does anyone know the answer?

I had one of these a few years back, but the rope rotted and the log fell into a big spiky bush and could not be retrieved without sustaining unacceptable injury.
It does attract insects in the way described, and within a year it was completely occupied. Insects, particularly bees, are having a bad year and need all the help they can get.
I have just bought another one and hung it in a safer place among some creepers that seem to attract bees. It's a good product and the vendor is helpful. Recommended.

Purchased as a gift for my father on Fathers' Day. He was very pleased with his present and is keen to attract more bees to the garden.

Ideal good quality log. Heavy enough to insulate against the cold and can hang it anywhere as long a it is not knocked around by the wind. It is in use and appreciated!
