Think a vampire-hunting bloodhound is dangerous? Try threatening his woman.

Bloodhounds, Book 1

Wilder Harding is a bloodhound, created by the Guild to hunt down and kill vampires on America’s frontier. His enhanced abilities come with a high price: on the full moon, he becomes capable of savagery beyond telling, while the new moon brings a sexual hunger that borders on madness.

Rescuing a weapons inventor from undead kidnappers is just another assignment, though one with an added complication—keeping his hands off the man’s pretty young apprentice, who insists on tagging along.

At odds with polite society, Satira’s only constant has been the aging weapons inventor who treats her like a daughter. She isn’t going to trust Wilder with Nathaniel’s life, not when the Guild might decide the old man isn’t worth saving. Besides, if there’s one thing she’s learned, it’s that brains are more important than brawn.

As the search stretches far longer than Wilder planned, he finds himself fighting against time. If Satira is still at his side when the new moon comes, nothing will stop him from claiming her. Worse, she seems all too willing. If their passion unlocks the beast inside, no one will be safe. Not even the man they’re fighting to save.

Warning: This book contains a crude, gun-slinging, vampire-hunting hero who howls at the full moon and a smart, stubborn heroine who invents mad-scientist weapons. Also included: wild frontier adventures, brothels, danger, betrayal and a good dose of wicked loving in an alternate Wild West.

Bloodhounds book 1 2 Feb 2012
By Sarah Gibson TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition
Satira works as an apprentice to weapons inventor Nathaniel, she enjoys her job and her boss is more like a father to her. When Nathaniel goes missing she is worried for his safety and also for her future, women aren't usually allowed to become inventors and without Nathaniel's support she isn't sure how she will survive alone. The Guild that Nathaniel works for are worried that the technology he has been working on could end up in the hands of their enemies so they send Bloodhound Wilder to search for him. Wilder's Bloodhound abilities make him ideal for tracking down and fighting vampires but Satira can't trust him to bring Nathaniel home and insists on going with him. Can they track down Nathaniel and get him home safely?

I haven't come across a story by Moira Rogers that I haven't enjoyed so I was really looking forward to reading Wilder's Mate. I'm not quite sure what category to put the story in - it's definitely a paranormal romance with a hint of steampunk but it also has an old fashioned western feel to it despite the fact that it is set in the future - but no matter what genre you call it the story is fab.

If you're looking for a dirty talking pure alpha hero then Wilder is your man and I absolutely loved him. Strong, sexy and protective Wilder manages to stay on the hot side of alpha without stepping into overbearing and offensive territory. In other words he's the perfect hero that will make you weak at the knees! Satira is a great match for him, she is strong, intelligent and quite a tomboy but she isn't afraid of her femininity and although she is independent she knows her limits and is prepared to ask for help when she needs it. As a couple they work well together, I loved the banter between them and their sexual chemistry is off the charts.

The plot is fast paced and introduces the world well, we aren't overwhelmed with information and Moira Rogers leaves us wanting more. I still have questions about both the abilities of the Bloodhounds and the world they are living in and am looking forward to discovering more as the series continues. We have been introduced to some of the characters who will appear in the next few stories and I can't wait to get to know them better. I definitely recommend the story to fans of paranormal romance, steampunk or the wild west and if you like all of those genres you'll love Wilder's Mate.

I liked the idea of this book. Western steampunk werewolves, who wouldn't? I just wish there was more to this book. There was much less character development and world building, and much more unbelievable, lustful bedroom action.

I was ultimately left disappointed, wishing for more details on the characters and environment and found myself suffering through the over the top love scenes. Not a bad book, as long as you know what you are looking for and what you are getting.

Wonderful premise, weak execution (also it's a novella, not a novel) 8 April 2011
By Amber Miller - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm tempted to give this two stars (especially after seeing it was put out by a publisher and isn't an indie book), but I'm not that familiar with erotica, so maybe this is par for the course.

I got suckered in because I enjoy steampunk, and the sample pages made this sound right up my alley. Smart mechanically inclined heroine in cool Steampunk/Wild West world off on an adventure to save her mentor.

I expected a lot of action and adventure. Instead I got a lot of characters sitting around talking and/or lusting after each other with scads and scads of background information dumped on the page. I love a good romance along with my action (huge Linnea Sinclair fan), but this wasn't it. The world isn't fleshed out, and there's very little conflict, or anything interesting happening, and I found myself skimming almost as soon as the characters rode out of town.

Again, maybe for erotica this is kind of the expected thing, so please take my review with a grain of salt. I was just disappointed because the premise sounded very cool and the story didn't live up to expectations.

Also the publisher might want to put the word count in the description. I don't know how long this is, but I'm sure it's not novel length, and that may affect some people's decision to purchase at this price.

Shifters in the Old West 29 Mar 2011
By K. M. Martin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the first book in a new series that takes place in an alternate Old West. Vampires are the outlaws and Bloodhounds are the equivalent of the Texas Rangers. When inventor Nathaniel is kidnapped by vampires, Wilder is assigned to the case. Satira has been Nathaniel's unofficial apprentice and is determined to go along to help rescue him.

Satira has been raised around the bloodhounds; her mother was mated to one. She thinks she knows what the bloodhounds are like but she wasn't expecting someone like Wilder. Their attraction to each other was instant but Wilder was determined not to take advantage of her perceived innocence. At first Satira just wants Wilder but gradually, as she learns to know him better, the wanting turns into love.

Satira is smart, determined, and unconscious of her beauty. Wilder is handsome, powerful, and very dangerous. They are a match made in heaven. This was a great romance and a fascinating fantasy world. I look forward to more adventures in the world.

Wilder's Mate - Bloodhounds #1 by Moira Rogers 26 Mar 2011
By B. Sharp - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
My thoughts:
I love Moira Rogers books! I haven't read everything of hers, but I believe I have everything so I will get to them.

She creates characters that I just can't help loving. Her men are always incredible and her women are always smart, headstrong, independent and sexy. She seems to manage to put just the right spin on each character and then puts the characters together in just the right match to create the best story.

The story has a bit of everything. Love, loss, honor, betrayal, friendship, and intrigue.
This story puts a different spin on the paranormal by adding the bloodhound - as opposed to the traditional werewolf type shifter. I was thrilled to see so much compassion from Wilder when it came to the ghouls, Archer, Hunter, and Nataniel. The idea behind the Bloodhounds seems to be that they are somewhat mindless in their hunting of vampires, but he proves this theory wrong both with his behavior and the way he treats people. I loved the human side of his beast-like persona.
The book has a few main characters, but I also enjoyed the secondary characters very much. Polly made me laugh out loud when she was setting up Satira's disguise.

This was a great story, read it through in one sitting - would recommend it to fans of all things paranormal - as long as they don't mind some hot and heavy sections.
