Review

Go Wild With Your Camera is a well-filmed, very watchable series of programmes ideal for wildlife photographers just starting out, but with enough variety of subjects, techniques and tips to make them worth watching by serious amateurs. The three professional photographers who demonstrate their techniques are excellent choices: top of their field (though with down-to-earth styles) and knowledgeable naturalists with decades of field experience and a genuine love of wildlife. What sets these enjoyable DVDs apart is that all the featured subjects are British and are photographed close to the photographers homes, emphasising the point that knowing your home patch and your subject is more important than the gear, and demonstrating the fact that forethought, composition and originality are key to a winning shot. --Rosamund Kidman Cox, former editor of BBC Wildlife Magazine

Fantastic! 9 Jan 2008
A beautifully filmed DVD to rival any of the Attenborough productions. Loads of tips and hints from three professional photographers on how to get 'that' shot of British wildlife. The sections on dragonflies and amphibians particularly stand out. Chris Gomersalls tip on how to use live mealworms as bait for robins was very useful.

Each section or chapter is followed by a summary on equipment, settings used etc.

Cannot recommend this DVD highly enough for all wildlife photographers or even those just interested in British wildlife.

A wildlife photographer myself, I sometimes find myself stuck in a rut and in desperate need of some inspiration. As I much appreciated the Photographing Wild Birds by Chris Gomersall, I thought this DVD could be worth watching. And indeed, it was! While it is squarely aimed at the beginner, it still provides some inspirational ideas even for the more advanced photographer, and certainly a nice evening's worth of relaxing in front of the TV, taking in the thoughts of three very affable colleagues. It's a pity there wasn't a female photographer among, or in addition to, the three. Although women may be in a minority among nature photographers, there's no reason why it should remain so. The inclusion of, e.g., Heather Angel, might have been a step towards changing that by providing a female role-model.

All in all, this is is a pleasant behind-the-scenes DVD which might not turn your world upside down but will provide the inspiration to actually get out there and start taking photographs. It's fun, you know!

Go Wild and succeed 20 April 2009
As an amateur wildlife photographer I certainly need all the help I can get. Having been on two of the Wildshots (Northshots) Tours organised by the three professionals that feature in this 2 x DVD set produced by Andy Langley, I can confidently say that for any aspiring wildlife photographer, this is an essential purchase.
The essence of its appeal is the simple and straightforward guidance provided by the experts and the noticeable lack of jargon. The professionals succeed in de-mystifying the all too prevelent complications that surround most photographic guides and demonstrate that expensive and complicated equipment is far less important than a basic understanding of animal behaviour and a grasp of the homework and preparatory effort that sets the scene for capturing that magic image.
Where other professionals seem to confuse you with technique, Peter Cairns, Mark Hamblin and Chris Gomersall take the opposite approach and walk you through the basics without blinding you with science.
Their results are of course stunning but they also manage to persuade you that you too can emulate their images by following their guidelines.
The result is two DVD's that can be watched repeatedly on two levels; one for the tuition and another for the wildlife subjects and images.
It is advertised as a comprehensive guide to wildlife photography and in that endeavour it wholeheartedly succeeds. Certainly my favourite wildlife photography guide.
