The Psionic series is a pentalogy revolving around a highly detailed world of humans and Psionics. Psionics refer to people who have acquired extra mental capacities such as telekinesis, mind control and a whole range of completely original abilities too.

The Pentalogy follows the story of Adrian Howell who coincidentally shares the name of the author. (Henceforth if I refer to Howell I mean the author and Adrian, the character.) Adrian is just about thirteen years old in Book One: Wild-Born although because of his size most people think he is a lot younger. Throughout his younger years things just happened around him. Things fell off walls and shelves. Because it had always happened he thought it was normal. Until he went camping and people started to call him weird.

Imbued with curiosity and the imagination of a young child he starts to experiment. Nothing really comes of it until he has an accident. Lying in hospital recuperating his returns, out of boredom, to his experiments. For reasons he can't explain he simply can make things happen. Weakly at first he manipulates his environment. Then, out of hospital, his experiments become more ambitious to the delight of his younger sister, Cat.

Adrian has absolutely no idea the consequences of this sudden power, but he is about to find out. He is tortured by headaches more painful than he has ever known. Then one night, a storm blows in and upsets the entirety of his life as he has known it.

Howell's YA Urban Fantasy has enough gore, conspiracy and heart to appeal to the maturer reader also. It is set within our world but there is a secret undercurrent of warring factions and Psionics in hiding from various threats. Between the spaces of reality a whole world exists where anything is possible.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!! 31 Jan. 2013

I bought all four books as they were free with fairly low expectations, but I have been pleasantly surprised. I am only half way through book one but as the other reviewer stated I felt that Psionic deserved a good review to hopefully spread the word as to what a great book it is, I will definitely be reading books 2, 3, 4 and hopefully any others that are published.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Wild-born 5 Feb. 2013

I got the whole pentology free and didnt expect alot, I have got other free books and been disappointed, but not this time!
I couldnt put them down! Fantastic story line about Psionics, people developing Esp, mind control, healing, being able to hide the power of other Psionics, turning invisible etc and the revulsion with which they are regarded. The books follow Adrian Howell and as such are written by him as memoirs and warning, about what you'll have to read the books. Like me I guarantee you won't be able to put them down, so what are you waiting for?

    5.0 out of 5 stars Quality 8 Oct. 2014

One of those troublesome "put the world on pause while I read" books that gets so super-glued to your fingers that nothing else gets done, not even half way through yet but had to say something, love this story so far, extremely well written, the style is quite distinct, its also written from the angle of a twelve year old, I am an adult and from this book I can clearly remember just how intelligent and aware I was at this age, how cunning and strong willed I was and how giving up did not even enter my vocabulary, great insight, great book

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good! 28 Sept. 2014

Reminiscent of fantasies from the 70-ties, and esp some Gestalt-texts, but fairly decent characters and simple plot..I do get tired of petulant teenagers who always know better than any adults what should be done, and who mess up when they go off on their own, and have to be rescued...but I guess that is the nature of books for the US market? And the old ploy of the evil research facility is getting shopworn and tired too...but not a bad read, straight and well paced, and perking along..

5.0 out of 5 stars PSI fi 26 Mar. 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
    very Enjoyable psi-fi.

A thirteen year old boy is forced on the run when he develops telikinetic abilities and is subsequently hunted by others with similar abilities.

The story is episodic in format and deals with his discovey of a hidden subculture of psionics gathered into groups each struggling for control of psionic society.
Very well done with great characters both likeable and unlikeable. Lots of twists and turns that are delightfun and unpredictable.
Quite violent and has a very urgent realism which keeps you biting your nails and wondering wahts next.

If you like psionic themed fiction this is a must read.

Its part of a series of which ive read the first three and havent been disapointed with any of them so far.
Its an underrated genre and this is a suprise find thats a compelling read.

I have only read book 1 which I now realise is a series. Thank goodness because I didn't want this book to end. I simply love books where the characters grow and develop as the page turns before your very eyes. Beautiful work author and I wish you every success. I couldn't wait to post this review so that the word spreads that more should read your work.well done.
