Product Description

Telephone - series 302 red. The iconic type 302 phone was designed by the prolific industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss and introduced in 1937. He used ear to mouth measurements from 2000 people to create the egonomic handset. The first to incorporate the bell in the base of the unit, the phone was originally cast in metal. This piece was later produced using a heavy-duty plastic housing. Its appearance, combined with a rugged construction, earned it the nickname "The Cow's Hoof" because of its lipped hoof-style base. This early desk version served as the standard for the better part of World War II while telephone design efforts were halted due to defense work. Features: Push button dialing, Redial button, Ringer volume on/off switch, earpiece volume control, simply plugs into a standard UK phone socket

Looks nice 6 Aug 2008
On the plus side It looks nice and feels solid, and has a proper bell ring. On the negative side, the bell could to with being louder and the sound transmission is not perfect. I can sometimes hear my own breath in the earpiece and at least one person I call says they can hear me but not as well when I use another phone. The lead could be much longer as well. I might have returned it if I could be bothered to pack it again, but decided not to. I was also hoping the color would be a deep scarlet not a sort of off red.

The dial does not turn, it is press number only.

I thought from other reviews that the red might be the "wrong" colour. However, it's a nice deep red which is not what it looks like in the picture (it looks a bit "orangey" in the picture). The bell is the traditional "brng brng" of my youth and really brings back some memories. It looks a bit "placky" at first but you soon get used to it. The handset is a nice weight but be warned - those that remember being able to hook the phone between shoulder and ear will have no chance with this model. The back of the handset rises to a ridge (see picture) and so makes it impossible to jam into the shoulder without it slipping and turning. All in all, I thinks its a great uncomplicated phone. The middle bit that says "Wait for Dial Tone" is the Hold and Redial rocker button (upper for Hold and lower for Redial).

Love it 16 Oct 2009
So nice to actually pick and have a long conversation with a large comfortable handset. Also nice to know you're not frying your brain with electromagnetic radiation as with a mobile. Perfect blend of old and new.

Looks great, but poor sound quality.
Although this product has had many favourable reviews, in my case the good looks cannot compensate for an extremely poor sound quality during calls. Read more
