Synopsis
Featuring every episode from the first two series of the quirky comedy set in the picturesque yet rather odd coastal village of St. Gweep. Simon Nye's Wild West stars Dawn French as Mary Tregwednack who lives above her Post Office in a Cornish village with her neurotic best friend Angela (Catherine Tate). Mary and Angela enjoy the cosy security of life in a tight-knit coastal community but their chances of finding suitable men are more remote than the village itself. The two women find themselves thrown together in an unlikely yet happy relationship, which is put to the test on occasion, particularly if a healthy hunk of testosterone visits the village.

This is a very funny series - Catherine and Dawn are hilarious and work really well together. Nice to see Dawn in soemthing with a bit of an edge to it too. Pity it only ran for 2 seasons. The other characters are also very funny and gradually one becomes quite involved in this little insular world of Gweep.

I was recently introduced to The Catherine Tate Show (1,2,3)via Netflix here in the USA, and loved it. So on the hope she'd be just as hilarious I bought this series. Not exactly what I expected. While it's funny at times it's not proven itself hilarious to me thus far (after disc one). I remember Dawn French from when I was watching telly years ago in the UK and she's still in her character.
I don't blame Ms Tate, she's following the script.. I blame my disappointment on me for not reading enough reviews.

Okay, 'Wild West' isn't The Vicar Of Dibley' or 'The Catherine Tate Show'. It resembles neither show in any way, apart from it features the leads from both of those shows, but that's where the similarities end.
Wild West is quite a strange little series which really needs to be given time for it to get inside your head. It has a similar feel to the recent BBC1 series 'Jam & Jerusalem' (also starring Dawn French) which may be because it is also set in the West Country.
If you like quirky little comedies that don't signpost their punchlines then you might like 'Wild West'. Then again you might not. I certainly like it.
In summary, if you are a fan of dross like 'My Family' then avoid 'Wild West' like the plague.

Disappointment
Bit sad, great artists but the humor is quite over and under....Sadly.....As I think greatly of these two on other occasions.
