4.0 out of 5 stars against all odds 29 Jan 2001
By A Customer
I have only just begun reading books from the lesbian romance genre, & I'm glad I chose Wild Things as one of the first to read. The story is well crafted & begs to be read in just a few hours. In fact, I have only had the book for four days & have already read it twice! The story tells of two women who have very different but equally difficult struggles with their past - Kallmaker's emotional depiction of these struggles makes it very easy to empathise with the two central characters. One of my favourite elements of the novel is Kallmaker's use of point of view. She manages to tell the story through the eyes of both central characters, using first person narrative for one, and third person for the other. This technique enabled me to identify, and most importantly like & respect, both Sydney and Faith. I am definitely looking forward to reading more by Karin Kallmaker.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very touching love story 9 Jun 2000
By A Customer
I found this book to be every bit as good as the author's other works, and fell in love with both characters almost instantly. It tells of a torturous transition in the lives of both characters as they move slowly away from the control and regimentation of their separate lives, towards each other. The realisation of their mutual love tears them both apart initially, as they try to run away from their feelings and each other. One buries herself in the church, the other hides in her work, but in the end, as expected, they give in to the overwhelming passion they feel for each other with gay abandon!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read but a little amatuerish 4 Mar 2002
By A Customer
I loved this book. The title says it all " Wild things"!
Being a recovering catholic myself I identified with the characters and the prejudice and homophobia the church breeds. It was good to see someone triumph over it!
The book has a slightly amatuerish feel to it, nonetheless I have read it tiwce and enjoyed it very much.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Life Changing Book!!!!! 4 Mar 2003
I'm not a big reader, but this book had me glued all weekend! I could not put it down until I found out what happened to Sydney and Faith, the main characters. This book oozes sophistication, it takes you away from the seedy, repudnant world of the 'Gay Scene' - one night stands and dancing to Steps and shows you what can really become of a love that is absolutly meant to be. After reading this book I felt like a different woman, powerful and ready for life. From an intelligent Author this book will be at my side for many years to come. Move over The Bible, theres a new main text in town!

5.0 out of 5 stars The American Dream 31 Mar 2005
Move over Mills and Boon, this book has it all.
It has traditional morality - epitomised by Faith the academic historian still living with and financially supporting her parents.
It has public duty - in the form of rich beautiful attorney Sydney who wants to run for senator.
It has dressing up scenes at expensive American house parties; to-die-for prosperity, and an enormous penthouse overlooking the lake.
It has torn loyalties, steaminess, stolen kisses in a hayfield, an addiction to obscure quotations, and chat up lines about hands and fingers. Plus it has monogamy and a side-bow to lesbian motherhood in the dedication of the copy I read.
A real hit that's become a classic.
