5.0 out of 5 stars Read With a Smile!, 25 Mar 2004
This review is from: A Wild Pursuit (Mass Market Paperback)
I have become a huge fan of Eloisa James and have probably read most, if not all, of her previous books. A Wild Pursuit is one of a series and Miss James' style continues to enchant.

The book is in fact at least two love stories, beautifully crafted together with great humour and sensitivity. Heavily pregnant Esme, with her luscious lover posing as her gardener and mischievous, sexy Bea lusting after the puritanical Stephen Farifax-Lacy, are delightful leading ladies. Supporting characters being Esme's scandalous thrice-widowed aunt, elegant sexually-repressed Lady Helene Godwin and the virtuous ladies of the local sewing circle-cum-bible quoting group. Not forgetting the sexy gardener Sebastian!

As Stephen becomes embroiled in the love lives of Esme and Helene - who secure him as faux-fiance and lover, he cannot resist the charms of Lady Bea. Bea is determined to to live up to the title of society femme fatale she has adopted, but reluctantly realises that her reputation will do Stephen's no good at all. As a member of parliament, surely she will only cause him grief?

The tangles of the house-party guests become more entwined until the arrival of Sebastian's mother, followed by Esme's baby and her righteous and ever-critical mother.

Sometimes an epilogue seems a neat but contrived way to 'tidy up' the end of a book, but I loved the two at the end of 'A Wild Pursuit' and eventually put the book down with a sigh and a smile - no doubt to read again soon!

Choose Eloisa James' books if you like intelligent dialogue, unusual story-lines and great characterisation - you won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely enjoyable!!, 29 Dec 2008

The first reviewer sets the scene admirably for us and I have just 'romped' through this book and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! Sebastian and Stephen, although quite different, were so entertaining and very sexy. The first in this series was harder work to read but this one flowed beautifully. I am looking forward to the next in the series and keeping my fingers crossed that it will be as satisfying as 'A Wild Pursuit'.

4.0 out of 5 stars DIFFERENT, 18 May 2007
This review is from: A Wild Pursuit (Mass Market Paperback)
This was not what I was expecting, as it is not the normal historical romance. I can't say that I particularly liked the characters, none of them were perfect, but the more I read the more I needed to know what happened to them! Also, it did make me smile, as there is some very funny dialogue and situations between the characters. Not sure, however, that I would want to read it again as there was no "warm fuzzy glow" at the end.
