JUST WHEN YOU THINK THAT YOU HAVE HEARD MOST MUSIC FROM NAT KING COLE`S LONG AND OUTSTANDING CAREER ALONG COMES "WILD IS LOVE" ! THE THEME OF THIS CONCEPT ALBUM IS OF COURSE LOVE, AND WHO BETTER TO TAKE US ON SUCH AN EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE THAN (POSSIBLY) THE GREATEST SINGER OF LOVE SONGS WE HAVE EVER KNOWN. WITH THE MUSIC AND ARRANGEMENTS IN THE COMPANY OF NELSON RIDDLE THE "PROJECT" IS COMPLETE. THE SOUND QUALITY (REMASTERED) IS EXCELLENT, AND THE BOOKLET FROM THE FIFTIES ERA WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK ALL ADDS TO THE THE ROMANCE OF THIS PRODUCTION.
THIS ALBUM WAS VERY MUCH A PERSONAL PROJECT FOR NAT KING COLE. THE 14 TRACKS INCLUDE AN INTRODUCTION AND A FINALE, AND AT THE TIME THE ALBUM WAS SO SUCCESSFUL THAT A MUSICAL WAS CONSIDERED. THE TOP QUALITY SONGS ARE NOT WELL KNOWN, BUT I ENJOYED THEM ALL, AND FOUND THEM TO BE WELL UP TO NAT`S CONSISTENTLY HIGH STANDARDS. SONGWRITERS ARE DOTTY WAYNE AND RAY RASCH, AND THE SONG TITLES INCLUDE.......WILD IS LOVE, IN LOVE AGAIN, STAY WITH IT, HE WHO HESITATES, TELL HER IN THE MORNING, PICK-UP, AND OTHERS. ANYONE WHO ENJOYS NAT`S SINGING, AND GREAT MUSIC FROM AN OUSTANDING ERA WILL LOVE THIS ALBUM !

A masterpiece. Ray Rasch (music) e Dotty Wayne (lyrics) wrote at the end of the Fifties a dozen of excellent songs dedicated to the many aspects of love. With the voice of Nat King Cole and the great Nelson Riddle as a conductor and arranger, the result has been, in 1960, the first concept album, I guess, in the history of pop. A musical in record, not inside a theatre. The production was gorgeous. The original album contained a photographic book with pictures and sentences close to the songs (you can find it now, but in the small cd format). Ballads, blues and swinging songs are dominated by the sunny voice of Nat King Cole at his best.

Still remarkable 31 July 2009

With its fold-out cover and photo story booklet inside, "Wild Is Love" was an extravagant Capitol project. Issuing an album of all-new music was nearly unheard of at the time and to issue one written as a complete project equally unheard. Capitol had no idea what to expect but the album indeed was a hit and got big radio play. Nelson Riddle's arrangements deserve much credit; he was at his zenith here. Please note that there was NO Broadway production of "Wild Is Love." The album was written as an album and there was some consideration of taking it further as the basis for a musical, but there was no such musical ever staged. "Wild Is Love" was good enough for Patti Drew to do her own, later, version for Capitol (!) and I believe there was even a third version. Cole also did a T.V. performance of the music complete with the narrative.

"original and his best ~ Nat King Cole & Nelson Riddle" 28 Mar 2005
By J. Lovins - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Capitol Records presents "Wild Is Love", featuring an original production with music by Ray Rasch and lyrics by Dotty Wayne and the voice of Nat King Cole...with chorus, orchestration and conducted by Nelson Riddle is truly a masterpiece...sample one of the finest collections ever recorded by an artist who was always on top of the charts. No other singer in the business had the warmth that this man gave during a performance. Along with Frank Sinatra, Cole built the Capitol Towers and brought them fame and fortune. Cole in my estimation did more for Capitol Records than any other recording artist of that time...and the record still holds today.

Nat had a tenderness in his voice, completely flawless...he could never deliver a bad tune...his style and signature of making a song his own has never been duplicated. Within this compilation are 14 heartfelt ballads and upbeat tunes...Some songs have never seen the light of day...a collectors dream come true...more selections from the greatest entertainer of our time!

In alphabetical order and with an all-star guest cast are the 14 selections:

ARE YOU DISENCHANTED?
BEGGAR FOR THE BLUES
HE WHO HESITATES
IN LOVE AGAIN
INTRODUCTION
HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS OF GIRLS
IT'S A BEAUTIFUL EVENING
PICK-UP
STAY WITH IT
WILD IS LOVE
WILD IS LOVE FINALE
WORLD OF NO RETURN
WOULDN'T YOU KNOW

Entire collection is a stand out in my book...America never had a more widely beloved ambassador (except for Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong), hope this is a glimpse into the future of better things coming our way if the recording industry ever wakes up to the listeners and fans of good music.

Digitally remastered by Bob Norberg at Capitol Records, Hollywood, California...you can't go wrong with any of Cole's albums that are now on CD...many are hard-to-find and some not well known...highlights and stand outs are the entire album with brilliant arrangements by the master of orchestration Nelson Riddle and Nat performing them...beautiful and heartfelt ballads and fun tunes...featuring Nat's original style are simply captivating...Nat sings this from the heart and you're loving it...now we can relive the songs that gave us so much pleasure...remember Nat was with us for such a short time...just sit back, give a listen and enjoy the sounds we grew up with...songs we've come to love over these past plus sixty years...gotta love it!

Nat was awarded a posthumous plaque to the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame, naming him one of the major early influences on rock 'n' roll...they'll never be another pass this way again...thank you Captiol for this release of Nat "King" Cole for the decades of music that followed...his songs will remain with us always and forever...just the way we like 'em!

My fiance and I loved Nat.
On the night I decided to propose we drove around Branch Brook Park in Newark NJ in my father's 190SL with the top down. WNEW had an evening program where they played entire albums; that evening they played "Wild is Love".
Needless to say it became "our album".
I lost my love in '98, but "Wild is Love" is still "our album".

Nat King Col's Talent On Wild Is Love Album 2 Jun 2003
By Frank Cooney - Published on Amazon.com

I have heard the album and was impressed with Mr. Cole's smooth rendition of all of the different types of music throughout. His music will be with us for many, many years to come. Wild Is Love is an album that didn't become as popular as other music by Nat King Cole, but in my view it was one of his best works.
