4.0 out of 5 stars The Wild Hunt... 12 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an interesting collection of thematically connected stories about the 'old gods' - about Pan and his ilk. More specifically, the life such imaginary beings might represent: closer to the cycles of nature perhaps. Not that this is just some hippie-nonsense - as you can tell from the title the author understands the savage, predatory side of nature too.

The writing is generally about creating, and sustaining, the mood that such stories require, rather than dramatic twists and turns - the atmosphere is generally dreamy and hallucinatory, as befits stories that often take place at night, and depending on how you read them might just be extensions of the character's dreams rather than real... Very occasionally the prose becomes too flowery or is slightly too vague, but the author always recovers her balance in a sentence or two.

If the theme at all appeals to you, give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Read 11 May 2012
By JSC
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't normally read short story collections but something about the first few lines of this book made me want to give it a try. I'm not sorry. Reading each of these stories is as satisfying as reading a full-length novel. Each has its own mood and within each there is a lesson to learn. I found the stories read more like a long poem than prose. If you like fables and mood pieces, then you'll love this collection.

And for 99 cents? What a bargain

I found this a very stimulating read. I admit that I am not a great short story fan - last collection I read was Edgar Allen Poe some 30 years ago - but I thoroughly enjoyed this collection; each story a self contained adventure in ideas and each very different. I do hope this author keeps writing...
