4.0 out of 5 stars MORE HISTORICAL THAN PARANORMAL 12 July 2012
By Carol 'avid little bookworm' TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Leo is a tortured, uncultured soul, due to being abandoned in the jungle for many years. Lord Roberts, Leo's Grandfather feels the necessity to equip him with the decorum needed to inherit the family title and estate.

To that end Ella, an orphan, is employed to act as Governess to Leo, even though he is an adult. She is the antithesis of Leo, gentle and kind and with a gift, or curse depending on how one views it, to feel the emotions of both animals and humans. She is overwhelmed by Leo's raw emotions and savageness but agrees to stay as Governess for a six month period in exchange for something she has never possessed - her independence and security.

What I love about Lori Brighton is her ability to build sexual tension between hero and heroine and this novel is no exception. Leo is plausibly wild, as Ella is timid. Also, she is a very descriptive writer and I had no difficulty placing myself in that period in time and surroundings; so of course I was hooked from the very beginning, finishing easily within a couple of days - and this is really quite a lengthy novel. The paranormal aspect of this novel is light and enhances the storyline rather than detracts from it. I would recommend, lovely whimsical historical romance; easily worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read 1 Jan 2010
By Helen Hancox TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
'Wild Heart' wasn't entirely run-of-the-mill like so many books in this genre; for a debut novel it showed promise and had some interesting aspects.

This was actually a longer novel than normal, with over 400 pages of fairly small type. You get a lot for your money with the introductory price and it's worth it.

Ella Finch, an orphan, has been sent to be a governess to a boy Leo who is due to inherit a title from his grandfather and needs to learn his manners. Ella is distinctly surprised to discover, however, that Leo is no boy but is actually older than her, but was lost in the jungle in Africa for years and has only just been rediscovered. She's not sure if he even can speak initially and he's a mysterious and slightly frightening character.

Ella herself has some secrets and when she begins to bond with Leo and begin to understand him, she realises that he is practising a deception of his own. As they build a relationship of trust and friendship, can she let him know her secret, and why is it that people seem to be attempting to kill Leo and perhaps even her?

This was a good read although the tinge of paranormal in the story might not be to every reader's taste. The action was sometimes rather slow but overall the two lead characters were able to carry the book as they were interesting and complex. As the book wrapped up (although not entirely - I presume there will be sequel) I felt that the pacing went a little awry and the end rather rushed towards us, with some unexpected changes of idea which didn't always settle well, but overall I liked reading this book and felt that it showed promise for the author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Historical Romannce 10 Feb 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I had seen this book being reviewed on a few blog sites and I had to try it out and wasn't disappointed.

Both Leo and Ella have mysterious pasts which keep you guessing throughout the book as to what they are which helps you keep reading to find out. Leo appears to be uncultured but he is hiding something which Ella slowly brings out of him and she soon realises he is not what he seems. With twists and turns and mysterious events make the book an interesting read and I can't wait to read the next one to find out what is happening in the background story.
