Product Description

When Danny Trevanion moved to South Africa and became the local vet at Leopard s Den, he had no idea what an extraordinary life-changing event it would be. As seasons change and time passes, his world continues to evolve with old faces and new challenges greeting him at every dawn. Danny s step-daughter Olivia has returned to the family home, throwing his relationship with Alice into turmoil. When he turns to drink for comfort, the unexpected death of an animal in his care leads to a temporary suspension that is at risk of becoming permanent. A local beauty contest at the holiday resort at Mara brightens the scene, with local bar-keeper Cedric wide-eyed and about to fall in love. But one dark betrayal leads to a serious family rift which may only be healed when DuPlessis falls seriously ill and an indebted elephant proves that elephants never forget.

I am not reviewing the amazon copy since it has not been released yet. I bought my copy from The ABC Shop in Australia so it is possible that any extras may differ. There are no extras in the Australian release. There are 10 episodes in this series, so good value. While I still love this show, I found this series subtly different to the prevous ones and it took me time to get used to this. Analysing it, I think that series five focuses on the personal relationships more than previously, and there is more conflict among the characters. The focus seems to me to have been taken away from the animals compared to previous series. I also thought there was more cutting from one scene to another. I thought that, at times this made it difficult to follow the characterisations being developed. Hayley Mills is in all of the episodes except for episodes 5,6, and 7. In this series, she is looking great. and she is an active, likeable and pivotal character in the series. I now can't imagine this show without her in it. I think that the tension in the series bought about by relationship conflict is not an attractive quality for this type of show. For me the tension between man and beast was exciting in the past series. Even though I didn't enjoy all of the conflicts, I couldn't possibly give this series anything but 5 stars because it is so good. And the acting is excellent.

Communing with Nature 29 Mar 2011
Format:DVD
A gentle story about an English ex-patriot vet trying to set up a nature reserve in South Africa and fighting against development and losing. Good interaction between characters and good shots of wildlife. Pity this seems to be the end of the series. of wildlife.

Beautiful 12 Feb 2011
Format:DVD
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I was sad to find out that this is apparently the last and final season in the series. Pity. It is not often that the viewers (like me) get to watch such warm, human and interesting series. Good actors who, all of them, could be used in further parts. I do hope that the producers realize that we would like to see some more of the same and continue with the next season. I keep my fingers crossed. I, and my friends, watched all seasons a number of times and never got bored. I still hope for the continuation.
