Amazon.co.uk Review
Familiar in feel but lifted by its execution, Wild Child finds Emma Roberts--she of Nancy Drew fame--in the lead role as Poppy. Poppy is, as the title of the film hints, not the most well behaved of young ladies, and this leads her father (played by Aidan Quinn) to promptly send her across the water to boarding school in England. Thus, the stage is set for lots of culture clash comedy, and a genial little movie aimed at teenage girls. The strengths of Wild Child lie firmly in its cast, who happily make the most of the generally slight material. Roberts, who has to make the transformation from selfish brat to more rounded and generally pleasant human being, is on fine form, while Georgia King offers good support too. There are notable turns too from Alex Pettyfer (remember him from Stormbreaker?), Daisy Donovan and Natasha Richardson. Wild Child’s plot inevitably injects a romance angle, and treads heavily on clichés as it attempts to wring out what laughs and entertainment it can from the material. But for its target audience, you suspect it pretty much hits the bullseye. It might not be a film with much edge to it, but there is a solid hour and a half’s entertainment here. --Jon Foster

Synopsis
Nancy Drew's Emma Roberts does a 180 from the well-behaved teen detective to become a Wild Child in this comedy. Poppy is a spoiled and selfish princess living in Los Angeles, but her parents have decided to end her reign by sending her to a prim and proper boarding school in England.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wildly entertaining!, 13 Sep 2008
By xXx Lauren xXx (West Yorkshire, UK) - See all my reviews
A wonderful girly film in the same league as 'The Princess Diaries'. The culture clash between the superficial American Poppy and the well-mannered British girls is hilariously well acted throughout, with the typical English and American stereotypes played brilliantly. The whole cast bring a huge amount of humour to the plot, whilst underneath everything you can see that the film is a celebration of friendship, acceptance and finding yourself. A must see movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild Child, 10 Oct 2008
By Amber "Minx" (Manchester) - See all my reviews
A typical American teen, meets a preppy boarding school in England after pushing her father to the extremes. As Poppy finds her feet in England, she has to make friends and in th eprocess falls in love. All she wants to do is go home and hang out. Having got the headmistresses son (Alex Pettyfer)in her eyes and the girls support, will Poppy ever find true happiness??? An entertaining film that girls will enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute romantic-comedy without the heart-throb!!!, 16 Dec 2008
By A. Lalor "IloveRichardArmitage" (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Wild Child is a cute, quirky teenage comedy along the same lines as The Princess Diaries and A Cinderella Story.

Poppy Moore is a spoilt rich kid living the high life in America. After one stunt too many her exasperated father is forced to send her to a strict English boarding school in the hope of straightening her out. Naturally Poppy rebels against the regime as she struggles to find a way to get herself expelled, leading to a number of mildly funny scerarios. After numerous failed attempts the ultimate route to expulsion appears to lie in seducing the headmistress's son: Freddie. But as the time of her expulsion draws ever closer and Poppy starts to settle in and make friends will she really want to leave at all?

Undoubtedly the story is not what anyone would call original. There are countless teenage films following the exact same formula. What makes Wild Child work however is it's crafty script full of reasonably funny one-liners as the cultural differences between the English and the Americans are polarised to extremity. The acting throughout is very strong with special mention to be given to leading lady Emma Roberts, who manages to keep us glued the whole way through making a very smooth transition from precocious brat to lovable friend. Do I predict a future star in the making? Her love interest Freddie is possibly the film's weakest link and is mainly the reason this film loses a star. Not only does he look too old to be interested in petite Emma Roberts his charisma is not portrayed very well on screen. Perhaps this was due to an alarming lack of screen time or a poorly written script for his scenes. Either way he fails to make the cut as a teenage heart-throb.

Classy outfits, catchy tunes and lots of physical comedy rise this movie from the gutter it could so easily have fallen into.
I would recommend this movie for any teenage girls. This is the perfect movie for a girly night-in or a mother-daughter evening. Younger kids would equally enjoy it alot.

Good fun film. As a Brit what I particularly liked was that the UK's peculiarities didnt get made to look weird. It was well done and fast paced.
