Paul Weller has at times been fascinating, inspirational and incisive. Even recently he has put out some very good singles remeniscent of the fire and skill of The Jam.

"Wild Blue Yonder" as a title is rather evocative. Sadly most of the song is a chugger which trudges (can you chug and trudge at the same time?) along not so much causing offense as not really causing anything at all. The bridge is all self-doubting and charming and almost raises this song out of its stodge. But sadly not quite.

The additional track on here - "Small Personal Fortune" - co-written with Steve Cradock is sub-standard. When you think Mr Weller put such gems as "Fly On The Wall" on a B-side, things have slipped. This is lightweight inconsequential folk-rock that would even look poor as an Ocean Colour Scene album track.

Come on, sunbeam, raise your game....

Well the wild blue yonder is about to be released and all hardcore weller fans and non fans alike should buy it, this song reflects music from the latter half of his long standing career and this one really spices it up a bit, the electro acoustic guitar throughout but what really stands out to me on this record is the organ it gives such a great almost eery sound. This record shows that MR Paul Weller is definetly not out of tricks quite yet.
