I chose this book for a recent trip to help with identification of the variety of wildlife in the country. The book is nicely illustrated with colour photos and interesting, but non-specialist text. The main issue is that coverage (i.e. number of entries) is very limited given the vastness of the topic. Whereas in the UK there are excellent identification guides covering all wildlife, plants and animals, it seems (having looked extensively in Australia) that there is no such single book for this vast continent. If you are serious about identifying what you are looking at, I am afraid you will need to invest in a number of guides on e.g. birds, mammals, reptiles, spiders, plants etc. Also, we visited Western Australia and given the vastness of the continent, many (most?) of the entries did not apply to that area. See this as a 'souvenir' celebration of the variety, rather than a fieldguide.
