A excellent book that makes the case for more human-centred design and compassion in this world 3 July 2013

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is a profound book that has tangibly and powerfully affirmed why I am engaged in social innovation work and lead my life from a space of love, compassion and community. I use it regularly to provide evidence for why I do what I do and be the way I be.

Many of people consider these principles to be "nice" and "fluffy" however, in actually I believe social innovation, love, compassion and community are forms of strength and power (good of course). However, to explain its benefits have always been a bit of a challenge since there's only so far you can go talking about feelings and hypothesis.

Then a year ago I met Zainab Amadahy, she was exploring the scientific benefits of social justice work and especially the principles of love, compassion, and community. I attended one of her workshops and was blown away by what she had to share. From her exploration she has written a book called Wielding the Force: The Science of Social Justice where she makes the biological case of more love, compassion and community in our world. For instance:

* Cooperation and compassion enhances your immune response.
* Sharing generates healthful biological responses for yourself AND those who observe you in action.
* Your UNSPOKEN feelings can impact the health of others.
* Even THINKING about nature or IMAGINING pleasantries can improve your health and productivity

These are only the very tip of the iceberg with regard to the quality and quantity of information Zainab provides in her book with the regard to making a scientific case for social and environmental justice.

It is an excellent read and I use it to build the foundation and frameworks for my work.
