I first read this book when I was about six years old. I am now 32 and haven't owned it since then...this shows how deeply I enjoyed reading it as I can remember most of the story and have been trying to purchase a copy for my own children for over a year now.
The story focuses on Jake, a young boy who can't get to sleep. He tries and tries, but is still (obviously!) wide awake.
If I remember correctly, it's his mum who advises him to go to visit the Yami of Yawn. He's the one who'll be able to make Jake sleepy.
So, Jake sets out on his adventures to find the Yami of Yawn, with just one piece of advice from his mum...if he gets into any danger, just yawn.
I am not going to spoil the story if any of you lucky people out there manage to obtain a copy of this...suffice to say that 26 years after first reading it (24 years after last reading it!) not only I, but also my older brothers, can still remember it clearly.
It is well written, captures the youngsters imaginations and is a sure fire winner at bedtime!
