..and legless 11 April 2012
Format:Audio CD
This was released a couple of years after their most well known and best album "I am the greatest" which in my opinion is one of the greatest albums of all time, so definitely a hard act to follow.
Nothing Dave Couse does is bad but this album is not as consistent as it's predecessor although it does have it's moments.
We still of course get his lovely distinctive voice, deep and rich but plaintiff when stretched. The spoken/singing style is also still evident and there are some great songs on show especially "here come the good times" (almost a hit single), "the strong and the silent" and "big talk" but there are also too many just average songs included too.
Dave is still going as a solo artist and produces some good albums but if you're just buying your first A House album go for "I am the greatest" instead and be amazed.

Irresistible 'analytical' fun 28 Jun 2005
By Tnahpellee - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The Couse factor strikes again! Having largely been absent on the 'I am the greatest', a triumphant return of the cringe rings loud and clear. David's over-analysing to the most minute detail about every aspect of life often sounds like the ramblings of a mad man, and can be true torture!

But, with his 'kinda-named-after-him' cohorts, he can write fantastic pop songs. 'The strong and the silent' and 'She keeps me humble' are as irresistible as they come, despite some odd lyrics (and after all, that's why we love Couse isn't it?). Meanwhile, 'Everything I am' sounds like something Hi-jacked from Ringo Starr's 70's albums, and the whole thing culminates with the joyous 'Here come the good times'. And actually, that's how the this album reads, a football team of backing vocals, honest-to-goodness vocals from Couse and sprightly lead guitar painting the whole thing in all sorts of colours.

Musings like 'Why Me' and 'Curious' could be either David Couse proving he needs help, having a brutally honest assessment of himself, or, probably, a mix of both. And while we're at it, very few singers admit 'I thought the more you got to know someone, the less you had to say', wow! In his own way he's SO romantic, even if it's usually his girlfriends fault. Rating **** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

A Great Album from Irish's Best Band of the 80's 29 Aug 2007
By Lyndon jones - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The world is full of wonderful musicians and fantastic bands and Ireland, in the mid-80's, had it's fair share of great bands that never a reached the audience that their music deserved. Bands like The Fat Lady Sings, The Pale, Aslan, The Blades, The Whipping Boy, Tokyo Olympics, Something Happens and A House. Yes you can say that fame came late to Dave, Fergal and the Boys with the hit "Endless Art" but by then it was too late and fleeting.

I remember seeing A House as often as I could when they played in Cork - Sir Henrys or De Lacy House and even travelled to O'Sheas Hotel in Tramore Co. Waterord where on a wet winters night there was about 20 in the audience BUT what a great show. I wrote to Dave Couse some time after that show and mentioned that I was there, he remembered the show and that they made a decent haul in T-Shirt sales (I still have my "I AM THE GREATEST" T-Shirt!!)

Now onto "Wide Eyed And Ignorant"
Yes a great A House album with great vocals, as always, from Dave Couse. The production is pretty lush as is evident on "She Keeps Me Humble" - strings in the background sound great
"Why Me" - "This is a cruel and ruthless world" - Again a Dave Couse rant. Brilliant!!!
"Everything I Am" - nice brass arrangement
"Strong And The Silent" - typical A House with good guitar work by Fergal.
Other good tracks "The Comedy Is Over", "Curious"

Would I recommend this album - YES But check out "I Want Too Much" probably the peak of their music.
