The Couse factor strikes again! Having largely been absent on the 'I am the greatest', a triumphant return of the cringe rings loud and clear. David's over-analysing to the most minute detail about every aspect of life often sounds like the ramblings of a mad man, and can be true torture!
But, with his 'kinda-named-after-him' cohorts, he can write fantastic pop songs. 'The strong and the silent' and 'She keeps me humble' are as irresistible as they come, despite some odd lyrics (and after all, that's why we love Couse isn't it?). Meanwhile, 'Everything I am' sounds like something Hi-jacked from Ringo Starr's 70's albums, and the whole thing culminates with the joyous 'Here come the good times'. And actually, that's how the this album reads, a football team of backing vocals, honest-to-goodness vocals from Couse and sprightly lead guitar painting the whole thing in all sorts of colours.
Musings like 'Why Me' and 'Curious' could be either David Couse proving he needs help, having a brutally honest assessment of himself, or, probably, a mix of both. And while we're at it, very few singers admit 'I thought the more you got to know someone, the less you had to say', wow! In his own way he's SO romantic, even if it's usually his girlfriends fault.
