The story is loosely based on the best selling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. The musical is directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. The musical, following Maguire s novel, is a re-imagining of L. Frank Baum s classic story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from the point of view of the witches of Oz, set mostly prior to Dorothy s arrival from Kansas. The musical, following Maguire's novel, is a re-imagining of L. Frank Baum's classic story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from the point of view of the witches of Oz, set mostly prior to Dorothy's arrival from Kansas. The plot also makes several references to the classic 1939 film.
High quality recordings all the main songs from the Tony award-winning musical performed by The San Juan Players. Attractive packaging, great value for money. Ties in with 'The Wizard of Oz' original soundtrack which Delta has also released. Well worth a listen...

OK but inferior to other renditions

I'm a huge WICKED fan...and I have a desire to own every single recording made, including these "unofficial" ones. This particular version, recorded by the San Juan Players, is certainly not terrible. But it's certainly not great. Of all the recorded versions of the show, nothing can quite compare to the Original Broadway Cast Recording (Decca Broadway) and the Stuttgart (Germany) Cast Recording (performed in German). The vocalists and orchestra are both brilliant on each of those recordings. The San Juan Players version has synthesized orchestrations and weak vocalists. However, it is certainly not the worst of the "amateur" recordings of the score (I'd have to say that "WICKED 4 KIDS" is the absolute worst). Anyway, die-hard WICKED fans would love to add this to their collections, mostly because it's yet another version of WICKED. And we certainly can't have enough of this show, can we?

Not as good as the original cast, but it is a must for any true Wicked fan! It is nice to hear other actors play the parts.
