Product Description

Synopsis

Before the yellow brick road, this work presents an exclusive first look behind the scenes of the No. 1 Broadway musical "Wicked". It is packed with beautiful colour photos, inside stories and profiles of the cast and creative team. "The Wicked" musical is one of the most exciting shows on Broadway today, loved by both fans and critics alike. The most successful Broadway musical of 2004, the musical tells the back story of the "Land of Oz", focusing on two very recognisable figures: Galinda, the good witch, and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. "Wicked: The Grimmerie" takes fans backstage, providing vivid photos of the characters and set, profiling the talents behind the show and offering special features that go beyond traditional tie-in material - an "Ozian" glossary, excerpts from the show's libretto, an illustrated family tree that links each of the characters and a step-by-step look at how Elphaba gets green before every show!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wicked Purchase, 9 Aug 2006
By
K. Bradburn (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: "Wicked": The Grimmerie (Hardcover)
I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I bought the Grimmerie, as my only points of reference were the cover, and amazon uk/us site reviews.

However, if anyone considers themselves a serious fan of the show, this is absolutely a must-have.

There is alot of detail on how the show was put togther, how it came to be from the first ideas of the plot in Maguire's head to a fully-fledged hit on Broadway.

The photos are fantastic, although most were nothing I hadn't seen before from promotional shots except for some like those of Elphie "getting green" and some special shots of the tour cast etc.

The detail that has gone into the book is wonderful and the size and material within it are well worth the price.

I was disappointed by nothing, and so thoroughly recommend it. It's a great companion book to the show, and I've not yet seen something quite like it, bar the Rent "bible" by Jonathon Larson. Hopefully it'll inspire other hit shows to do the same!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful gift, 23 Feb 2006
By
This review is from: "Wicked": The Grimmerie (Hardcover)
I bought this as a gift for my Wicked obsessed neice and she absolutley loves it. The quality and finish of the book is quite exceptional. The details and background to the production shed new light and make for a wonderfully eye opening read.

As a UK buyer the end price still made it a quite superb buy

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Grimmerie" is truly a magic of its own, 17 July 2007
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: "Wicked": The Grimmerie (Hardcover)
Being a huge Wicked fan, I asked my mother to buy me The Grimmerie for my birthday, and I was in no way let down.

The presentation of the book in itself is lush, detailed and in a world of it's own. The thickly padded cover is comfortable to the feel, and the textured pattern on the front cover offers a nice contrast with the smoothness of the rest of the front. Even the writing its very self is printed in a way to seem natural looking on the book, and the aged effect appears very pleasing to the eye.

Inside, the book is full of interesting snippets of information, including information on the background and writing of each song in the show, and there are interviews with the cast members over their decisions on how to portray their characters. The pages are once more made to look old and worn, but the information and pictures on them still manage to look beautiful, vibrant and bring to life the musical in a way not seen before in print.

At close to 200 pages, the book may seem rather short as a complete background to the show, but the pages are packed with so much text, information, and imagery to keep even the least enthusiastic fan of wicked happy. The libretto within may not be a complete libretto (excerpts from key scenes such as The Wicked Witch Of The East or the cornfields scene are missing or condensed) but still give a nice flavour of the shows contents.

It is truly an outstanding book, and one which I will recommend to any fan of the musical, however if you have not seen the show then it is probably more advisable to see the show before looking at the book, as spoilers are contained within.
