Wicked City is an extremely interesting film, with alot of sex and violence throughout, so don't expect mild stuff.I had high expectations of this film, and was slightly let down- looking back on it now; nothing much happens. Interesting characters, bloody fight scenes and the action are thing things which pull this movie through. Taki's character is slightly wooden, but on the other hand Maki is represented as a very intelligent and strong lady, unlike how other female's are represented in other Manga movies; so that was a nice change. The animation is good, not good enough to saw 'Wow, this looks amazing' but good enough to please. I think Manga movies with subtitles can be annoying, so any dubbing is good enough for me- in this case it's extremely good. This movie may make people feel uncomfortable, but it will grow on you- and you'll get used to it, and most probably come to like it (seeing as it's a popular title for Manga fans)I think the film is quite interesting, and different from others because the good guys don't seem very experienced to me(preferably Taki)It also make's a change from all of those annoying, futuristic animated robot's in Manga movies (Detonator Orgun, Gunhed etc). Still, it's simply a post-apocolyptic story, which is easy to follow, which seemed to drag on qute a bit. The climax to the movie has a small, yet interesting twist, but let's down just a little bit. Don't expect a huge blockbuster-type movie-just swich off, and sit through some fun and exciting entertainment.

Good fun, but could be so much better, 21 Oct 2000

This anime is set at a time when the signing of a new peace treaty between demons and humans is threatened by a faction of human-hating demons. It focusses on the efforts of two Black Guards (agents assigned to keeping peace between demons and humans), Taki, a human male, and Maki, a beautiful female demon, to protect the irritating Doctor Malyart, whose presence at the signing is, apparently, of utmost importance.Wicked City is a horror film which features graphic scenes of violence, sex and nudity. Unlike Urotsukidoji, I did not find this anime offensive. The animation is absolutely gorgeous, it contains a lot of great ideas and there are some wonderful action sequences in it. However, it fails to sustain interest throughout, some of the characters are intensely annoying, the ending (which I shan't ruin as it is meant to be a surprise) is extremely disappointing and, as a whole, it was ruined by the "Oh, Taki"/"Oh, Maki" style romance which took over the plot in the second half. So, all in all, this could have been a fantastic movie, but in fact it's just an okay one.

An all time classic, 8 April 2002
I can not praise this highly enough. The artwork is stunning the plot easy to folow and the characters are easy to both love and hate. Yes there are scenes of both sex and violence but if you are looking for a great manga I would put this up there with Ghost in the Shell and 3x3 eyes
