Book Description

1 Nov 2011
"Church is boring." "It's irrelevant." "It's full of hypocrites." You've heard the excuses --now learn the real reasons men and boys are fleeing churches of every kind, all over the world. Christianity is the only world religion with a chronic shortage of men. David Murrow identifies the barriers to male participation, and explains why it's so hard to motivate the men who do go to church. Then, he takes you inside several fast-growing congregations that are winning the hearts of men and boys. The first release of "Why Men Hate Going to Church" sold more than 125,000 copies and was published in multiple languages. This edition is completely revised, reorganized, and rewritten, with more than 70 percent new content. ""Why Men Hate Going to Church"" does not call men back to church--it calls the church back to men. "This is one of the most helpful books for understanding why men are indifferent toward church and how churches must change to welcome men."--MARK DRISCOLL, pastor of Mars Hill Church; cofounder of Acts 29 Church Planting; founder of The Resurgence "[This] is a prophetic and relevant 'snap-out-of-it' masterwork that every pastor must read--not just for the sake of the kingdom, but also for his own sake and sanity in ministry."--KENNY LUCK, men's pastor, Saddleback Church "David Murrow knows how to connect with men. Where was this guy when I was twenty?"--FRANK PASTORE, host of America's largestChristian talk show, KKLA (Los Angeles) GROUP DISCUSSION GUIDE AVAILABLE FOR FREE AT WWW.CHURCHFORMEN.COM/GUIDES

I am enjoying this book hugely. It has really opened my eyes to why men just don't like church and is helping me make our church more accessible to men. An easy read but you do need to filter out a lot of it that is US-orientated.

This book does throw up some interesting points and we could learn from it. The downside is it being to American. It is written by an American about American Churches after all !
British version, anyone ?

Good insight to of what the title of the book says. Like the way it gives examples ( the 12 points) of why men do not attend churches as some were very true! good reader and recommend that leaders (men) read this book in churches.

4.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for churchgoers 15 Mar 2013

Very thought-provoking, if a little too American orientated in some of the statistics and expressions used. Would recommend it to friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Valuable and challenging stuff 5 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Why do women outnumber men 2 to 1 in many churches?
Why are so many men who do go to church simply not "mens' men?"
Why are property committees nevertheless dominated by men?
The answers are here, and the basic thesis is unarguable.
Some allowance has to be made for the crossing of the Atlantic, but nevertheless a valuable resource and essential reading for any church leader who wants to see more men in church

This book is absolutely amazing. It opened my eyes to how the church needs to portray Jesus as the Lion of Zion. This book has changed the way I and other parishioners need to change our attitudes toward men in the church.
Brilliant, brilliant book.
