5.0 out of 5 stars an enchanted forest of fables 2 Nov 2011
By Rupert
Format:Hardcover
I enjoyed this book very much with some very nice tales written by well known comtemporary talent. Trees are given a bit of a life of their own which will make me look at them all in a new way ! Nice illustrations give it a good, quality feel and proceeds go to support the Woodland Trust so you don't feel too guilty about this particular use of wood pulp. Five stars !

5.0 out of 5 stars Stepping into the woods... 24 Oct 2011
Format:Hardcover
A lovely collection of tales which allow you to step in and out of the woods - each story feels like a fable but has it's own unique style - in the same way that different species of tree have their own characters. Beautifully illustrated too AND profits go to the Woodland Trust.

Inspired by our native trees and woodland, nineteen contemporary writers have delved into their imaginations to conjure up this collection of fantastical and magical tales, in the manner of Aesop's Fables or Ted Hughes's How the Whale Became.

The Scots pine marks a couple's emotional journey for novelist Ali Smith; Richard Mabey wonders why the birch has silver bark (or does it?); and Kate Mosse sees a Viking influence in why the yew tree lives so long.

Proceeds from sale of the book will benefit the Woodland Trust.
