5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone writing a paper on the Civil War, 9 May 1997
By A Customer
This is an excellent book which contains six essays on the various economic, miliary, diplomatic, social, and politiical reasons why the Confederacy lost and the Union won the Civil War. This book saved my butt!

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting ; but doesn't really answer the question, 21 Jan 2007
By Mr. J. Hudson - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is full of unusual quotes and insights into numerous aspects of the American Civil War; it is interesting and enjoyable but unfortunately it fails to live up to its title. It is obvious that all of the writers are extremely well read and knowledeable about the civil war; but I can see no evidence that they know why the North won and the South lost. Even allowing for all of them being right, their theories are unconvincing. None of them convincingly tackled the question as to why the South held out for such a long time when the outcome was so clear to everone.
