Product Description

In the blink of an eye, Mom ran up behind me and pushed me into the fence. Instinctively, I reached out my arms to stop my fall and ended up grabbing the live fence. My hands clamped around the thin wires, and my body collapsed to the ground as the electricity coursed through it. I opened my eyes and saw my mother standing over me with the strangest smile on her face. "Oh, my God, I'm going to die!" I thought in panic.

Imagine never being able to close your eyes and remember the feel of your mother's arms wrapped around you. Now imagine closing your eyes and remembering your mother's tears splashing down on your face as she is on top of you, crying as she is trying to choke you to death. My mother left me these memories and many more during my traumatic childhood. After many years of struggling with trying to understand "Why Me?" I took back control of my life and started saying, "It was me, now what am I going to do?" I found my answers while writing my book. This is my childhood journey through the terrors of physical and mental abuse from first grade until the day I moved out. It is my way of letting the world know what was really going on behind closed doors.

5.0 out of 5 stars An example of the important value of life 17 April 2012
By Angie
Format:Kindle Edition
"Looking back now, I think I spent my childhood paying the price for a hospital nurse dialing the wrong number."

Dear Sarah, writing this book and sharing your personal life experience, sending a message to the world, taking defence of all the children who have lived the same stories, are all evidence that the nurse dialed the right number...

Childhood is the most important phase of our lives, and all parents, even the ones who are not abusive, should become more responsible for every single action or word they say to their children!

So the answer that I gave to the question: "Why Me?" after reading the book is: Because you were able to turn a tragic experience into an example that shows the value of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching 18 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I thank my friend from church for recommending that I read Why Me?by Sarah Burleton, and The Grandmothers by Janvier Chando. The stories are not only touching, they are well-written and make me see things from a different angle. These succinct stories held my attention to the point where I doubted if I paused at all until they came to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping! 24 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was extremely well written and gripping to read! It is terrible to think that any mother could treat their child like this one did and to never admit what she had done or be remorseful in any way even though her daughter gave her a chance. Truly inspiring!

Slowly, my mother’s taunts began to affect the way I saw myself in the mirror. Gone was the tall, shapely girl from the farm; all that looked back at me in the mirror was a fat, ugly girl whom no one wanted. "e;
