Product Description

"Scientific evidence has proven that kindness changes the brain, impacts the heart and immune system, and may even be an antidote to depression.
We’re actually genetically wired to be kind. In this book, inspirational ex-scientist David Hamilton shows that kindness has evolved in us and thus its effects are felt daily throughout our nervous systems. When we’re kind, our bodies are healthiest.
This groundbreaking book is filled with fascinating new discoveries, including:
• how kindness developed in our genes
• that love and kindness can make a damaged heart regenerate faster
• how kindness and compassion alter the neural structures of our brains
• that gratitude can make you at least 25% happier.
This unique book fuses scientific research around being kind with inspirational real life examples of kindness from ordinary people. Reading these stories will nourish your soul and leave you with renewed optimism for the future, and this book will help you see the many levels on which taking the time to make a difference could transform your health – and your whole world."

I am literally "stunned" at the previous one star review. I could go on in detail about how if the title of the book and the blurb about it was read and understood properly, then you wouldn't be expecting answers about what's gone wrong with the world. But I won't go on too much, I am instead going to be kind to the other reviewer, as Dr Hamilton teaches that it is much better for the health of my heart if I show compassion. This book tells us many fascinating things about kindness: how it slows the ageing process, that it's more important than diet when it comes to protecting ourselves from heart disease and hundreds of more unbelievable studies. Dr Hamilton's style of writing is brilliant, very modern and quirky. The list at the end is brilliant. It is a mixture of small and big acts of kindness, which is great, as if you haven't the time to do a huge act of kindness everyday (I don't!), he tells us that just the little things on a regular basis can have a massive effect. I completely believe that if everyone read this book, the world would be a much better, kinder and a more inspirational place.

Wow! what an amazing and insightful book by such a talented and inspiring author! I have lived life on the very edge of society and in the depths of some very negative spaces. From hardcore drugs to imprisonment and with a very little educational background, and still in my twenties . Heavy books rarely make sense or seem to miss the point, but I feel this book like Davids other inspiring books have reached not only the medical profession, therapist and practitioners or the average lay person but he has also opened it up to a much wider audience then ever before. And where it is so needed. With its easy to read research and scientific snippets he has truly given individuals from divers backgrounds an understanding into what makes the word a better place and how we can improve our lives with some very small steps, starting from now. The resources and suggestions come in abundance. I my self attended the cinema last night and brought a spare ticket to be left for the person behind me, just one of the small suggestions David shares with us in his list ''fifty acts of kindness'' merely suggestions to do to help you make yourself and life feel better and the world a better place. David has simply and clearly thrown light out to the universe and the ripple affect has already begun it felt great! I look forward to reading more from such a unique writer, thank you David!

Dr David Hamilton has a refreshing perspective to share on this topic. The book is not filled with optimistic "you'll live happily ever after if you stay positive" type advice. Instead it's filled with down to earth facts about the biology of kindness and compassion. Full of very practical info about how to achieve that. Suitable for everyone. Worth reading and worth sharing.
