The Anglican church has been no stranger to controversy during its history but the debates raging at the moment are among the hottest it has known. This book asks some prominent Anglicans why they are still in the church and what they love about it. Representing Anglicanism in all its range and diversity, the contributors are positive about the church and their place in it, and show appreciation, rather than resentment, of a Church that is broad enough to contain those of opposing views. This is a personal, partial and affectionate (though by no means uncritical) glimpse of the Anglican Church. >

5.0 out of 5 stars Revealing Read and Inspiring 18 Sep 2007
Format:Paperback
If you have a fascination with what makes people tick and even the slightest curiosity about the Church of England this book will be richly rewarding. From the wise and witty introduction through the fifteen interesting, honest and heartfelt speakers - I was deeply impressed by the wide-ranging thoughts and feelings that inspire them.

I read the book quickly, it's a page-turner and then I wanted to re-read it! Conclusion - this is a really excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An example of the broadness of the Anglican church 20 April 2009
Format:Paperback
This is a delightful collection of short pieces by a broad selection of people who may have been born into the Anglican church or who have converted and are still within it; overall it shows just how broad we are as a church and just how important our church is to us for all kinds of reasons.

On a personal level, I was particularly interested to read Hugh Montefiore's input because I have had the same experience as he has and I am sure that anyone could read this book and find someone who thinks or feels the same or has had similar experiences.

I think that anyone who has ever had or still has a faith or religious tradition would find something in this book that would resonate with them at some level.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost thou enticeth me to become an Anglican 19 July 2009
Format:Paperback
I am not and never have been an Anglican yet I very much enjoyed this very diverse selection of accounts of their church membership by prominent Anglicans. The range of short essays highlights the inclusive nature of the Church of England. The range of contributors is impressive from the satirist Ian Hislop, the judge Elizabeth Butler-Sloss to the convert from Judaism Hugh Montefiore. If you want to know what some Anglicans think and feel about their Church, then this book is for you.
