Product Description

Eva Perino is single and proud of it. Owner of The Grounds, a coffee shop nestled in the heart of a college town, thirtysomething Eva cherishes her comfortable life filled with quirky friends, a fun job, and no significant other. In fact, she’s so content to be on her own that she started a blog about it: “Why I Love Singlehood.” Yet when she hears the news of her ex-boyfriend’s engagement, her confidence in her single status takes a surprisingly hard hit.

So begins Eva’s clumsy (and occasionally uproarious) search for love as she secretly joins an online dating site, tries her hand at speed-dating, and breaks her own rule by getting involved with one of The Grounds’ regulars. Soon Eva is forced to figure out exactly who—or what—is the true love of her life. Sparkling with warmth and wit, Why I Love Singlehood is a charming and insightful must-read for anyone—single or otherwise—who has ever been stymied by love.

Do I love Singlehood? 24 Aug 2011
By Uenna TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Why I Love Singlehood is another classical romantic comedy about a middle-aged woman who re-enters the dating world. 33-year old, single, professor turned coffee-shop owner, Eva is perfectly happy with her life. She loves her work, friends and regulars and is living the perfect single life; in fact it's so perfect that she starts a blog called Why I Love Singlehood or WILS to her friends. Then, Eva finds out that her old beau/love-of-her-life, Shaun, was engaged and then the blinders come off: she realises that she wasn't over her ex. Realisation hits Eva after a quite humorous melt-down that involved her throwing books at Shaun. It becomes clear to her that she's been living her life in pause waiting for Shaun to come back to her. But now, out of her denial, Eva throws herself into the dating world. Will she finally find her Mr. Right or will her love of singlehood be reinforced?
After reading the synopsis I had very high expectations for this book and while it wasn't a bad read I felt the pace was a bit slow. The book didn't grab me from the beginning and I also thought there were some areas that the Author could have made more comical. However, overall I did like it. I found Eva very heart-warming and very real. She, like many people, had tried to convince herself that she was happy with the life she had settled for, only because she was too scared to go after what she really wanted.

Why I Love Singlehood 29 Jun 2011
By S. Hapgood VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Eva is in her 30s, a published author and coffee-shop owner. She has a close circle of friends who seem to adore her and hang on her every word, a lovely house by the sea, not only that but all her customers seem to adore her too, writing her long, supportive letters, eagerly wanting to hear all her news at the coffee-shop, and ready to drop everything to listen to her latest tale of woe (not one awkward, grumpy devil amongst them!!). At a friend's insistence she starts up a Facebook blog about the joys of single life ... and then realises she's not certain she is enjoying being single after all, and in fact is still pining after her ex, who dumped her when he decided that their relationship wasn't good enough for him. Add to that he's recently got engaged, and has decided to turn up at the coffee-shop parading his attractive new fiance in front of Eva.

I enjoyed this at first, but it quickly outstayed its welcome. I think I was expecting something funnier, more of a biting satire on the perils of being single in a world that still seems stubbornly geared towards family life. It occasionally went that way, with the speed-dating evening for instance, but then it got dragged back to sentiment again. Plus Eva's angst was wearying. On her 34th birthday she moans "what have I achieved?" Well you've had a book published, you've got your own business and a home of your own, pretty good for starters! She also seems to have hordes of eager men desperate to get to know her better, but still pines for the loathsome ex, I mean really, get a grip lady!

If you're after a light, fluffy, feel-good read then this is probably just your thing, and in that case I can recommend it. Sadly, it wasn't for me though.

'Why I Love Singlehood' tells the story of Eva, owner of The Grounds, her manager Norman and the 'originals' - regular customers and close friends who spend their time at the coffee shop studying, gossiping and eating delicious cakes and cookies!

Told from Eva's point of view, we watch as her love of the single life is rocked and follow her journey of self-discovery. However, this is not just a story about a girl searching for love but also of friendship and family and that's why it works. Eva is a likeable and empathetic character and is supported by a range of wonderful, quirky friends whose lives and loves are explored in enough detail to make them matter just as much. I especially liked Minerva, Eva's best friend and confidant and the enigmatic nun Sister Beulah.

I loved the setting of the novel too - The Grounds sounds like a perfect place to hang out with friends and Eva's baking was described in delightful and tantalising detail!

The 'moral message' and great personal revelation of the story is a little underwhelming and there is a slightly unbelievable element in the number of suitors and opportunities Eva suddenly finds herself having. However, putting those down to the nature of a feel good chic lit, I enjoyed the story nevertheless!

A fun, feel good, light hearted story and an absorbing read.

Singlehood is about finding and committing to the love of your life. Im talking about the literal love of your life. Being in a place of self-sufficiency, strength, independence, comfort, confidence, and happiness is what matters. No relationship, no matter how seemingly perfect and compatible you are, can give you these things. You have to find them within. You have to bring them to your relationship. Because in the end, you dont have to be alone to be single. And being single doesnt mean that you are alone. "e;

Just remember that love comes in many forms. Never settle, and know that what one has torn, another can mend. Most of all, the love you really want is in you, Eva. Dont go chasing rainbows. Just open your eyes and admire their ever-present beauty. "e;
