Product Description

Product Description

This text digs beneath the Israel and Palestine conflict to examine the roots of the two cultures. The author, Colin Chapman, explores the history of the two peoples, and of the Jewish settlement in the region. He acknowledges the religious roots of the feelings on both sides and looks to the Bible to handle modern events. The book challenges many assumptions, including those of Christian Zionists, before presenting Chapman's own personal answers to the crisis. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Due to the rampant popularity of Christian Zionism, the bafflingly illogical ideology which claims that the Christian church is somehow subservient to the state of Israel, Colin Chapman is frequently villified as an anti-Semite. This could not be further from the truth. In this book he examines the history of the modern land of Israel, the people who have held it over the years, the nature of old Testament prophecies concerning the Jews, and the recent political history of the region, particularly since 1948, and he gives a sensitive and intelligent overview of this whole troubled situation. Unfortunately, many Christians are now so obsessed with eschatological predictions and so militant in their support of Israel that this is enough to make Mr Chapman unpopular in many circles.

Your opinion of this book is likely to be determined by the way you view Israel and the way you interpret the Bible. I found it a sensitive, intelligent, and sincere plea for justice and reconciliation in the Middle East, and I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to study the region dispassionately and sensibly.

In this area that is so beset by un-thinking dogma Colin Chapman speaks with balance, knowledge, wisdom and sound common sense. Read this book if you honestly want to learn about the issues and get an understanding of the background to this complex and intractable conflict. The issues are too deep and complex for any one book to address but this is an excellent introduction. Heartily recommended.

This book deals with the decades-old Israeli Palestinian conflict. Written by someone who has spent significant amounts of time in the Middle East and first published after the 1982 Israeli invasion of South Lebanon, it is even more relevant today.

It provides a brief yet comprehensive historical background to the people that have inhabited the land of Palestine over the centuries.

An analysis of Zionism, its roots, ideals and implementation is undetaken by referring to texts written by the pioneers of the Zionist movement. An analyisis of both Arab and Israeli claims to the land of Palestine in provided. Finally, the Bible and those parts of it that pertain to the Zionist claims are examined.

It is left for the reader to decide whose promised land the land of Palestine is.
