If you're a big fan of Johnny Thunders you'll probably want to check this out but if you want to find out what he was like it's probably better to go with the Dead or Alive DVD with the heartbreakers.

It looks like it's filmed on Video (it's a pro shoot - not a hand held bootleg with several cameras) that has deteriorated a little and is a later performance without any of the Heartbreakers and with a singer (I think Alison Gordy) who sings some of the songs in between the Johnny Thunders songs. It's pretty cool in that Johnny seems very together and you get some great guitar work from him as well and his voice is in good form.

The sound quality isn't amazing but better than some of the live bootlegs I've lived with over the years and it's a nice look at the shows Johnny Thinders was doing shortly before he died.

I'm glad I saw it but also glad I rented it. 10 years ago though, I'd have bought it and watched it every day for a year.

Anybody who saw johnny play live can testify that he was either fantastic or less than average, one thing for sure was he was never boring, that was half the fun of seeing him play you didnt know who he was going to be Dr jykle or Mr hyde.
This dvd gives you a glimpse of the great rock n roller that he was"but was never given the credit for"& also the artist who fought a constant battle against drug addiction all his career.
He was very ill when this was filmed yet he still gives us a sample of what a great and unique entertainer that he was.He relocated to new orleans shortly after this gig and sadly this was the last footage we have of him playing live before he tragically died.Johnny thunders was a very rare breed of artist..he was flawed but totally irreplaceable. You cant put your arms around a memory, but we can certainly feel them.
