I have read a few 'kiss and tell' books about our profession but none have come close to revealing the truth about the best and the worst aspects, nor with such humanity and wit. Enjoy this small, beautifully-written, action-packed collection of Christopher Gillett's experiences; some filled with pain and some with joy and pride. I am proud to be his colleague and friend.

Absolutely spot on!!! 14 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
Chris Gillett has captured the real world of opera in this book...for those poor misguided people out there who think "Popstar to Operastar" is a true picture of our profession, get out and buy this immediately, and learn what it is REALLY like!!! This book is by turn hilarious, deeply touching and above all searingly honest. Surprise , surprise, the real world of opera is not all Rolex watch advertising, limos and microphones..it is months away from home dealing with often a bizarre group of people and at the same time trying to maintain a normal home life too..and Chris paints this picture perfectly. I heartily recommend this book to everyone...you will weep with laughter. Can we have another one soon please?

I read this wonderful book at one sitting - rare for me. Poignant, insightful, VERY funny, but above all painfully (sometimes) realistic. Life on the boards really is like this, people. Genius.
