Product Description

[Region 0 DVD] From earliest memories to fan creativity to people running the show, Who's Changing is a unique Doctor Who documentary, or Whomentary, that takes a look at how fandom has changed so drastically over the years. Charting its rise from church halls in the Seventies to exhibition centers across the world today, we chat to those who were there at the very start of Doctor Who fandom and those who kept the fire burning all those years - and now those who celebrate in the most imaginative and brilliant of fashions. But it's not just fans that you'll find here. Giving their thoughts on fans and fandom are such Doctor Who legends like Leela (Louise Jameson) and Ace (Sophie Aldred) and new favourites such as Strax (Dan Starkey) and Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh). Who's Changing is a fun and fascinating look at how fans have changed with the times, just like Doctor Who did, and how these very fans and their amazing creativity go on from strength to strength and sometimes, just sometimes, end up in the show itself. Starring: Louise Jameson (Leela), Neve McIntosh (Madame Vastra), Dan Starkey (Strax), Sophie Aldred (Ace), Catrin Stewart (Jenny Flint), Caitlin Blackwood (Amelia Pond), Simon Fisher-Becker (Dorium Maldovar), Gary Russell (Doctor Who script editor), Jane Espenson (Buffy, Torchwood), James Moran (The Fires of Pompeii) and many, many more! DVD Extras: Exclusive extended interviews with Neve McIntosh, Louise Jameson, Sophie Aldred, Dan Starkey and Simon Fisher-Becker.

5.0 out of 5 stars A documentary for fans... by fans 31 Mar 2014
A great documentary and one I am pleased to have help fund. Whilst 'fan funding' is always a hit-or-miss affair this documentary is a fine example of when it works and works well.
A fair an unbiased look at Dr WHO fandom through the eyes of it's fans, stars and writers/producers. Interviewed guest range from 70's companion Louise Jameson (Leela), to more modern companion/friends such as , Neve McIntosh (Madame Vastra), Dan Starkey (Strax) and Catrin Stewart (Jenny Flint). The fact this production has such good interviewees really makes it stand out. It's nice to see British fans gettings their say in a point-the-camera-and-interview-them manner without alot of the flashy American-style interviews that we've seen since WHO came back.
Interviews shine a light on the series lasting appeal, both from people who have worked on it and the public, but at no time does the documentary feel 'fan-made' or does it point fun at fans. Good production values shine throughout and it moves at a brisk pace.
The cover doesn't really 'sell' the DVD. but take it from me, this really is a case of don't judge a book, or in this case a DVD, by it's cover!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who's Changing 15 Feb 2014
A great look back at the history of what it means to be a fan, from the first days of fan clubs and conventions to fandom in the 50th anniversary year. Covering everything from fans who became writers to cosplayers, kids and everyone in between. A touching look at the creativity and craft that is fuelled by people’s passion for the show with cupcakes, fan-fic and costumes. All presented via a great balance of interviews with fans and people associated with the show; put together to create an engaging, entertaining and fun film. There are some lovely extended interviews in the extra features as well.

This documentary seems not just a celebration of what it means to be a fan, but also a salute to the show itself. Full of great little touches like the chapter title names and the fan art used on the DVD and menus. It manages to perfectly capture that wonderful feeling of community and fun that comes with being a Doctor Who fan. I would recommend this too anyone who loves Doctor Who.

5.0 out of 5 stars The world of Dr Who 15 Feb 2014

Blown away by this documentary which offers a mini history of Dr Who fandom. It would not have been surprising if 82 mins of fans talking, interspersed with a some of the actors and writers, had been less exciting. But somehow the film's director, Cameron McEwan, pulls off a skilful blend of everything, making this a really entertaining hour and a bit. Made me nostalgic for the years of watching Dr Who, and made me happy that so many people still love it and are discovering it for themselves.. A must for every fan, old and new!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Documentary by the Fans for the Fans! 10 Feb 2014
By Sarika
So this was absolutely brilliant and put together so lovingly. It includes in-depth interviews with some very well known names connected with Doctor Who and you can see that they are all genuine fans of the show. It also includes footage from a couple conventions and takes a look at how creative and lovely the Doctor Who fans are. The evolution of the show and of the fans is explored which I found to be very fascinating and hilarious at times. A great buy for anyone who loves and enjoys the show at all. There are also DVD extras which are fab extended interviews with some of the past/current cast. Buy this now!

5.0 out of 5 stars beautifully nostalgic! 8 Feb 2014
By Neil
I'd recommend this DVD to any lover of 'classic who'. Being hooked since the age of four (back in the distant 70's), I could relate to so many of the interviews - fandom was so much harder back then!
Please don't be put off by the cheap looking cover - it doesn't do the content justice. This really is a quality production.
