Book Description

Caitríona Redmond worked in the property industry until she was made redundant the day she returned from maternity leave in 2009. This heralded a personal transformation from 'high-flying' PA to reluctant stay-at-home mother.

As the prospects of finding another suitable job dried up, Caitríona turned to using the skills she had used in her job and those she had learned at her grandmother's and mother's kitchen tables to run the household on a tight food budget of €70 per week for a family of five.

In this book Caitríona shares her tips, tricks and recipes with the reader to help them save money and feed their family well on a budget. All the recipes have been extensively tested on her friends and family! The book includes budgeting tips and menu plans which enable families to pick & mix from favourite meals, keep variety in their diet and make the most of the food that they cook.

More About the Author

Originally from Malahide in North Dublin, I've lived in Balbriggan for over 11 years now. My background is in Administration and Adult Education. I'm a former Irish PA Of The Year and used to work in the property industry. In 2009 I was made redundant, as the prospects of finding another suitable job dried up, I turned to using the skills that I already had from being a PA and those I had learned at my grandmother's and mother's kitchen tables. I run the household on a tight grocery budget which can be as little as €90 per week for a family of 5 (including cleaning materials and nappies). I have 2 small boys (aged 2 & 5) and a 14 year old step daughter.

I work from home as a freelance writer (specialising in food and parenting) and photographer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cookbook 30 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bought this cookbook after seeing the author doing a cookery demo at Ballymaloe Food & Drink Festival and hearing her interviewed on the radio. Found the author very practical and both health and price conscious which is really important to me these days as my grocery bill seems to be going up each week! Also the recipes look really good and I'm looking forward to digging into it this weekend.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favourite Irish Cookbooks 7 Oct. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Packed with practical advice and tricks to help the reader stay within their budget, waste less and eat delicious meals and snacks. There is a great range of recipes from breakfasts to spicy snacks (my crew loved the poppadoms) and baked treats like the glorious Mint Chocolate Brownie cake. This book would particularly make a great gift for anyone starting out but even seasoned cooks will find something new to try in one of my favourite purchases this year.
