4.0 out of 5 stars SOME GOOD IDEAS 22 April 2012
By Carol 'avid little bookworm' TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Whole New You is 365 brief ideas, one for each day of the year, and out of small things grow. There's a short introduction, start here, start now - how modern living is basically keeping us on the couch and not up and exercising, the main focus of the book seems to be exercise and diet. It's split into eleven categories. I'm writing this review as an older lady who's lived a lot of life and has held middle management positions for some years and I've collected many self help books along the way. For me this is a 3* review as there's really nothing new for me, but in the interest of fairness I've given it 4* as I feel there's some really good snip-its there for the less experienced, along with some funny and bizarre things. I've added some of my own comments in brackets!

1. Get your body going - no, pint lifting doesn't count as exercise

list positive habits you'd like to incorporate and add one each week
visualisation
eat two bananas a day - helps to keep blood pressure healthy (I'll def. try this one)

2. Super charge your career - you have to work at it

goal setting - career priorities next 6 mths
chunking - bite sized pieces
delegation
in meetings listen, assimilate and summarise the substance. Should then be able to steer
meetings towards them
conduct meetings standing up

3. Look your best - and turn some heads

green tea can raise the metabolic rate - (certainly give this one a try).
how important wearing suntan cream is
spend a day looking up rather than down - forward rather than backward

4. Do something with your free time - step 1: switch off the TV

grow your own sweet chestnuts, grow veg from seed
printing with potato (not for me)
de-cluttering

5. Help the Environment - is it really all that hard to sort your rubbish?

toilet flushing
grow courgettes (growing veg does seem to be a theme throughout this book!)
how to make your own organic mouthwash

6. Sort out your Finances - hoping for that big lottery win won't cut it

use cash instead of credit card - (I agree everyone should give this one a go, certainly
makes you think)

7. Be a great parent - going to the supermarket on a Wed evening is not a family outing

involving your child in food shopping and meal preparation will encourage a healthy
appetite
children should have 60 minutes of exercise each day
encourage children to discover their history, grandparents etc
don't sweat the small stuff - raises tension (this one is my favourite - I have book of
that name by Richard Carlson - brilliant - highly recommended)
encourage your child to be constructive in his criticism by getting him to elaborate on
his anwsers
be a role model to your child with an healthy diet

8. Challenge your brain - there's more to learn than this week's celebrity diet secrets

learn to speed read - (couldn't do it myself, I enjoy books and reading too much)
fake it till you make it (it really does work)
capturing stream-of-consciousness thoughts and ideas...get into habit of journaling (I
find this really does help clarity of thought)

9. Nurture the inner you - it's time to get touchy-feely, and it's not just for the girls

do you know who you are? (well worth giving a thought to)
set time aside for laughter
boost your health in five seconds... pat a dog - (brilliant I have two!)
play your favourite song and dance
appreciate this moment in time
power of mindfulness (check out Thich Nhat Hanh)

10. Be a great lover - there's more to it than sex

from giving each other a massage to swapping 100-watt bulbs for 40 or 60-watt!

11. Do something that scares you - if you've always wanted to but never dared - seize the
moment

change a limiting belief into an empowering one.
de-cluttering (again)
try hang gliding (no thank you lol)
don't let inappropriate fear paralyse you
face your finances
go commando (ha ha)
create an action plan

There were some nice little ideas in here but many I had heard before in other similar books and magazines. This book is worth reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun ish!! 22 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an OK read if you dont want to think very hard about what your reading, sometimes i feel that it is just a published version of the know it all drunk bloke in the pub.
It covers a huge variety of subjects and really does try to do something on all aspects of your life, each page has a slightly smug suggestion, that could be a soundbite or taken directly from athe sunday supplements.

As above its fine for a quick read where you dont have to engage your brain and some of the entries can be somewhat inspirational if not a little cheesy
